Bryson DeChambeau feels like something of a wildcard heading into the 2025 Ryder Cup, with the LIV Golf star making his first appearance for Team USA in four years at Bethpage Black.

You would have to go back to the 2021 Ryder Cup for the last time Bryson DeChambeau was wearing the red, white and blue of Team USA. Of course, he moved to LIV Golf the following year.

But with DeChambeau becoming one of the world’s best players in the biggest events over the last couple of seasons, the 31-year-old has managed to qualify automatically for Keegan Bradley‘s team. In fact, Bradley confirmed DeChambeau’s place during The Open Championship in July.

DeChambeau has that x-factor which could be such a game-changer for the American side. He obviously hits the ball a mile, but he is also golf’s ultimate showman – which could make him invaluable to Bradley’s men in New York later this month.

What Xander Schauffele has already told Bryson DeChambeau ahead of the Ryder Cup

Obviously, some of his peers have not always been particularly fond of DeChambeau and some of his antics. Brandel Chamblee believes some PGA Tour players are not fans of DeChambeau, believing that his transformation as a person is largely an act.

But someone who definitely wants DeChambeau to hold nothing back at Bethpage is Xander Schauffele.

The pair were teammates in 2021 at Whistling Straits. And speaking on the Fore Play Podcast about the dynamics between partners, Schauffele explained how he has already spoken to the Crushers captain in case they are playing together.

“[Patrick Cantlay‘s straight talking] clicked with me. I grew up with my dad, he’ll say some things off the cuff and I’m just straight. Just say it. I’m not going to take offence to it. I might, but I’ll let you know if it offends me,” he said.

“If I’m playing with Bryson next week, I was already telling Bryson I want to see him walking down every fairway with his putter up as if he drove the green. I loved that at Whistling Straits, that’s the energy we need. If I’m playing with that, and he tells me this is what’s happening, more power to you.”

Bryson DeChambeau’s Ryder Cup record so far as he prepares to make his third appearance at Bethpage

DeChambeau has got a real point to prove heading into the Ryder Cup. There is perhaps no player who is going to have a greater impact on the atmosphere in New York than DeChambeau.

If the Europeans can get the better of him in the opening sessions of the week, it is going to be a huge statement from Luke Donald‘s side.

But stopping him will be far from easy.

DeChambeau did have a debut to forget in 2018, losing to Alex Noren in the singles. However, he was unfortunate to be paired with Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods in the foursomes.

Woods was exhausted from winning the Tour Championship the previous week. Meanwhile, Jim Furyk made perhaps the most baffling decision of his captaincy when he opted to use Mickelson in the alternate shot session on Friday at Le Golf National.

He fared a lot better at Whistling Straits, going unbeaten alongside Scottie Scheffler. At the time, few had any idea what Scheffler would develop into. And DeChambeau felt like the talisman of the team, famously hitting a drive well over 400 yards at one stage.

If DeChambeau is able to contribute three or more points for USA, it is going to be incredibly difficult for the Europeans to find a way to head back across the Atlantic with the cup still in their possession.
