While Scottie Scheffler is surely going to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year award in the near future, there is no question at all that 2024 looks set to be a defining year in the career of Xander Schauffele.
It is almost remarkable to think that Xander Schauffele did not win a single event solely run by the PGA Tour this season. It is also incredible to think back and recall some of the questions which were being asked of the 31-year-old after the Wells Fargo Championship.
Schauffele had already proved time and time again that he had the game to compete in the biggest tournaments around the world on a consistent basis. Getting across the line however, proved to be a much more difficult task, it seemed. Losing out to Rory McIlroy at Quail Hollow did little to silence that discussion.
What Xander Schauffele is the only PGA Tour player to do this season
However, that talking point was put to bed within a matter of days, with Schauffele winning the PGA Championship at Valhalla for his major title. He would, of course, follow that by joining that group of players on two major titles by winning The Open Championship at Royal Troon.

While many will argue Scheffler has had the best year, players are more envious of what Schauffele has achieved in 2024. And there is reason to think that those two major titles could prove to be the first of many.
According to a report from Golf Digest, Schauffele is the one PGA Tour player who finds himself in the top 25 when it comes to strokes gained off the tee, tee to green, approach, around the green and putting.
What is holding Scottie Scheffler back
It will not surprise anyone to know that putting is the one area which prevents Scheffler joining his Presidents Cup teammate. But it is certainly not a shock to see Schauffele shine in all five categories – he is someone who has missed just three cuts in 30 major starts.
Schauffele has been backed to win six majors during his career. But perhaps there is reason to think that he has all the tools to make that prediction look too conservative.
