The TGL has enjoyed a very good first season so far and the star power on display is set to get bigger after Tony Finau was confirmed to be taking part over the coming weeks.
Finau was not part of the initial set up for the TGL but with Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood missing for the Los Angeles GC, the American has now joined the LA team on a one-month deal.
That means Finau will tee it up at the SoFi Center in the next two game weeks as LA take on the New York Golf Club and the Bay Golf Club.
Finau, of course, is a seasoned campaigner on the PGA Tour and for team LA, he’ll be a useful addition.
Indeed, with the match-play format of TGL, Finau’s experience and overall performance is worth noting.

Tony Finau’s match-play record after signing for LA Golf Club
Match-play golf can always be a difficult format and some players excel while others find it harder than the normal stroke play element of the game.
For Finau, he seems to be right down the middle in terms of overall performance.
In terms of the WGG Match Play event on the PGA Tour, Finau’s record is very much split. Finau has won six times, lost seven times, and halved two of his matches.
When it comes to the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, Finau’s record isn’t too dissimilar. In seven appearances, Finau has won twice, halved twice, and lost three times.
| Event | Match | Result |
| 2018 Ryder Cup | Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau def. Justin Rose and Jon Rahm | 1 up |
| 2018 Ryder Cup | Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy def. Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau | 2 and 1 |
| 2019 Presidents Cup | Byeong-hun An and Adam Scott def. Tony Finau and Bryson DeChambeau | 2 and 1 |
| 2019 Presidents Cup | Byeong-hun An and Adam Scott halved v. Tony Finau and Matt Kuchar | Halved |
| 2019 Presidents Cup | Joaquin Niemann and Byeong-hun An halved v. Tony Finau and Matt Kuchar | Halved |
| 2021 Ryder Cup | Tony Finau and Harris English def. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry | 4 and 3 |
| 2021 Ryder Cup | Shane Lowry and Tyrrell Hatton def. Tony Finau and Harris English | 1 up |
On the surface, it looks like things could go either way for Finau in the TGL and his LA teammates will be hoping that the more relaxed nature of the format plays into the hands of one of the PGA Tour’s most popular players.
What Tony Finau has said about joining TGL
Like many players on the PGA Tour, Finau has expressed an excitement at getting involved in the TGL.
“I’ve watched many of the TGL matches these past six weeks and I’m looking forward to getting a chance to be a part of it and compete. Team golf is always fun and exciting,” Finau said.
“Collin, Sahith, Justin and Tommy are great guys that I respect and enjoy being around. I appreciate Los Angeles Golf Club calling me up for this match. I’m excited to get to SoFi Center. The place looks electric, and I can’t wait to see it all first-hand and practice with the team. Monday is going to be a fun night.”
Finau will tee it up with Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala in his debut.
