Tiger Woods has hit some pretty remarkable shots over the course of his golfing career but if ever there was just one that sticks out, it’s his famous chip in at 16 at Augusta National in 2005.

With a seemingly impossible task of getting the ball even up and down for par, Woods produced one of the most stunning bits of creativity of his career.

Woods stung the ball into the shadows on the slope of the greens and watched on as the ball trickled towards the hole.

The famed commentary of ‘here it comes, here it comes’ was heard around the world, before the ball paused for a brief moment before dropping into the hole to cause pandemonium greenside.

However, while the crowd went wild, Woods has previously recounted the story of what he actually found really funny about the celebrations.

Tiger Woods says what was so funny about his famous Masters chip in on 16 in 2005

Speaking on a clip for the official Masters channel back in 2017, Tiger Woods was explaining his 2005 win and got onto the shot at 16.

And in a heart-warming story, Woods admits that looking back on the photos provides him with one of his finest memories.

“I hit a snap hook eight iron. I was hoping it would clear the water first of all and when I saw it land I was like ‘ok, that’s one of the worst shots you could possibly hit’, and I had a one shot lead at the time,” Woods said.

“Did I think I could hole it? Absolutely not. I wasn’t thinking that. I was trying to get the ball right in this little light where the trees were coming down and I knew if I could get it on there, then I could inside Chris’s ball. And I did.

“It goes in. Place goes bananas. One of the coolest photos, at the time, R&A President Peter Dawson was there. I holed the shot, and everyone is going bananas and Peter is perfectly stoic. It couldn’t have been a better photo. It’s one of the big moments I remember from that hole, which was really cool.”

What Tiger Woods picked as his best ever golf shot

While the common golf fan will look at Woods’ effort on 16 at the Masters as his best and most famous shot, for the man himself, there is another that stands out.

That comes in the form of a bunker shot in the 2002 PGA Championship when Woods hammered one from an awkward stance with a three iron, over trees and plumb into the middle of the green.

Woods described the shot as his ‘greatest feeling’ when hitting a golf ball at the time.

“The greatest-feeling shot I’ve ever hit was the 3-iron I hit at Hazeltine (2002 PGA Championship) out of the fairway bunker.”

With Woods now injured and pushing 50, it looks like we’ve seen the best he’s had to offer in the game and shots like these two here will be long-remembered.
