The 2025 Players Championship is fast approaching, as the strongest field in golf heads to TPC Sawgrass.

Scottie Scheffler is looking to defend his 2024 crown in Ponte Vedra Beach and win three consecutive Players Championship crowns. The world number one is the overwhelming favourite heading to TPC Sawgrass.

Elsewhere, Ludvig Aberg will hope his local knowledge of TPC Sawgrass will help him this week. The Swede lives close to the famed Flordia venue. Before last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, Aberg said TPC Sawgrass was one of the top five courses in the world.

It’s not just professionals who can play the Pete Dye-designed course. Amateur golfers can part with a small fortune to play TPC Sawgrass, and over the past year, several YouTube stars, including Rick Shiels, Grant Horvat, Peter Finch, and Garrett Clark, have played the course.

Here’s how each of them got on.

Shiels played TPC Sawgrass before he signed for the LIV Golf League and started producing content for the Saudi-backed venture.

The ‘king’ of YouTube golf kicked off his round with a bogey on the first before recording three consecutive pars. Shiels then dropped five shots in five holes to shoot 41 on the front nine. However, his best was to come on the back.

After pars at ten and 11, Shiels made birdie on the par-four 12th before dropping shots at 14 and 15. Shiels saved par on the iconic 17th and finished his round in style with a birdie on the last. Shiels eventually carded 78 (six over)

Finch’s round wasn’t as successful. Five over through 16, Finch dropped four shots on 17 and 18 to shoot 81 (nine over).

Grant Horvat’s match with Garrett Clark at TPC Sawgrass

Clark and Horvat played TPC Sawgrass at the start of 2025, and the pair had differing levels of success.

Clark was three over heading down the 18th before running into trouble. He would eventually jot an eight on his scorecard and sign for a 79 (seven over). As for Horvat, the YouTube sensation finished two over (74).

For most amateurs, breaking 80 would be an achievement, which makes Horvat’s 74 all the more impressive. Depending on the conditions, some pros would probably be happy with his finishing total.
