As the continued rumblings around LIV Golf and the PGA Tour agreeing to some sort of merger continue, one man who may never be back involved on the PGA side of things is Phil Mickelson.

Mickelson was one of the very first big names to make the jump over from the PGA to LIV and he’s been a vocal backer of LIV ever since.

Furthermore, Mickelson has also not held back in some of his opinions about the PGA Tour in general, meaning relations have been strained further.

However, just this week, current PGA star Wyndham Clark suggested the likes of Mickelson and Dustin Johnson would be welcomed back – by him at least.

“If Dustin Johnson wants to come back and Phil Mickelson and guys that have won, Brooks, who have won majors and are most likely hall of famers, they deserve to play wherever the hell they want, because they’re so good,” Clark said.

But looking back at what Mickelson said about the PGA Tour and the current LIV players in 2023, it doesn’t seem like the 45-time winner is in a rush to go back.

Phil Mickelson’s feelings on PGA Tour return clear from 2023 comment

Of course, time is one of the greatest healers and if things do come together at some point, Mickelson’s stance may well change.

However, back in the summer of 2023, Mickelson made no secret of his feelings towards the PGA Tour and admitted that at the time, not one single LIV player wanted to be on the PGA Tour.

Mickelson won’t play PGA Tour while Jay Monahan is around

Phil Mickelson is never afraid to voice his opinion and he’s had more than one thing to say about the LIV and PGA split since it happened.

Further, Mickelson is also not a big fan of Jay Monahan and he’s made those feelings abundantly clear as well.

Again over on his X account, Mickelson suggested that the game in general is like it is right now thanks to Monahan’s leadership.

Clearly, then, Mickelson is not going to be part of the PGA Tour while Monahan remains one of the main men.

And in fairness to Mickelson, he doesn’t exactly need to go and prove anything to anyone, given the success of his career.

Indeed, you feel once he’s done with LIV, he might well just retire from the game and play the majors when he can.
