Jordan Spieth has already enjoyed a magnificent career, despite his struggles over the past few years.
A three-time major champion, Spieth has tasted success at The Masters, The U.S Open and The Open Championship.
The 31-year-old only needs a win at the PGA Championship to join the exclusive Grand Slam club.
He has 13 PGA Tour wins to his name – just four off being inside the top 50 of all-time, but the last three years have been incredibly barren for him.
The American hasn’t won since the 2022 RBC Heritage. Despite his poor form though, Spieth is still considered to be a ‘needle-mover’ as far as drawing in fans to watch the sport is concerned.
The five-time Ryder Cup Team USA member will be desperate to rediscover his best form leading up to the hugely anticipated event at Bethpage Black in September.
He certainly has the mentality required to reach the very top of the game again.
What Jordan Spieth told his golf coach about The Masters as a 12-year-old child
Spieth has been destined for greatness from a very young age.
He topped the world amateur rankings for a long time, and finished in a tie for 21st at The U.S Open in 2012, before turning professional in December of the same year.
It took Spieth just seven months to win his first PGA Tour event, when he pipped Zach Johnson and David Hearn to the John Deere Classic title in July 2013.
He has since gone on to establish himself as one of the biggest names in the game.
Spieth has been coached by well-renowned instructor Cameron McCormick since he was just 12.
And McCormick opened up on a quite incredible thing that the three-time major winner told him 19 years ago, when speaking on the Top 100 Golf Courses podcast:
“So, day one, he demonstrated wisdom beyond his years when he sat in front of me and said, ‘here’s where I’m at and here’s where I want to get to’. Where he was at was just, for a 12-year-old, a really practical objective perspective of where his game was at, his strengths and weaknesses. And where he wanted to get to, he literally sat there and said, ‘I want to win The Masters’. I didn’t gulp out loud but I was like, ‘wow, that’s a bold objective for a 12-year-old to express to a coach’.”
That proves just how determined and ambitious Spieth was before he was even a teenager!
Spieth made even bolder claim about majors in 2017
The 31-year-old has clearly always been a single-minded winner, nothing more, nothing less.
It is that mentality that has enabled him to win so many big events throughout his career to date.
Back in 2017, Spieth discussed with McCormick how he could overtake Jack Nicklaus’s record haul of 18 major championships.
Whilst that may be out of reach now, you can bet that he hasn’t given up hope of achieving his goal one day.
Whilst Spieth isn’t the dominating force he once was, there is every chance he will win many more majors by the time he hangs up his clubs.
