Cam Young is in a superb position as he goes in search of his first ever PGA Tour win and in putting himself in the mix, he’s put himself right up with Scottie Scheffler in terms of brilliance.

The 28-year-old American is approaching 100 PGA Tour starts without a win and after showing promise a number of times in 2025, he now has an opportunity to finally get over the line.

At 15-under par, Young sits three clear of Joel Dahmen behind him, albeit there are a cluster of players not too far back chasing.

Still, with the way Young is playing, there is a distinct chance he finally gets that elusive win.

With consecutive rounds of 63 and 62, it’s safe to say Young is on form and in doing so, he’s put himself as the next best player behind Scottie Scheffler in one impressive metric.

Eight birdies for Young in round two ensured he finished in 62 in what was easily one of the most impressive rounds of the year so far.

Indeed, in playing so well and shooting 62, Young ensured he put himself in esteemed company alongside Scheffler.

In a stat shared by Justin Ray on X, Young has now recorded the second best two-round score of the whole year with 126, just one behind Scheffler’s brilliant opening two days at the Byron Nelson.

Cam Young needs his first PGA Tour win after near-misses

Just as Rory McIlroy needed to get the monkey off his back by winning The Masters, Cam Young needs to get his own issue sorted by getting over the line.

Young has now finished as runner-up seven times on the PGA Tour and has a further 22 top ten finishes to go alongside those second places.

As it stands, he’s at 93 PGA Tour events played without a win and the longer he goes without winning, the harder it will get.

With a three shot lead in the bag and in the form he’s in, this will feel like a failure if Young doesn’t deliver this time.

However, this is golf, and stranger things have happened, especially with 36 holes to play.
