The Masters is set for an explosive finish on championship Sunday as Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy go head to head for the green jacket.

With McIlroy four clear of Corey Conners in third and two ahead of DeChambeau, it appears to be a two horse race.

As we know, anything can happen in golf though and should McIlroy or DeChambeau falter, then a chasing pack of players will be ready to capitalise and make things nervours.

DeChambeau, of course, made things a lot more interesting as he rolled in a fine putt on 18 to turn a potential bogey into a birdie.

That moment led to DeChambeau once again getting involved with the patrons as he walked off to huge adulation and lapped it up, quite the contrast to McIlroy, who calmly left the course before explaining his need for a cool head on Sunday.

DeChambeau, though, has explained just why he likes to get the patrons involved.

Bryson DeChambeau explains moment with the patrons after seeing Rory McIlroy leading The Masters

Questioned by the media about his actions on 16 where he got the fans well involved in the action, DeChambeau admitted it was by design and firmly intentional as he looked to send a message to McIlroy.

“Rory was kind of moving forward. He was at 12-under, and I was kind of chasing a bit. When I made that, I looked up and I said, kind of as a statement, like, you know what, I’m still here. I’m going to keep going. I’m not going to back down,” DeChambeau admitted.

Then, explaining if it’s important to be in the final group, DeChambeau admitted it was on his mind.

“I mean, it’s always important in a major championship to try and be in the final round or close to the final round. It was definitely fun knowing that it was Rory and knowing that we could have a good matchup tomorrow. Like I said, we’re not the only players out there. There’s still a lot of great players. But it’s going to be a fun test.”

As for his ‘stare’ across the pond on 16, DeChambeau admitted he was pretty much doing it to get the patrons fired up.

“Just getting the Patrons going. Having a bit of fun with them. Makes me focus more. I don’t know. It’s a fun thing that whenever I feel like I feed into the crowd, especially the Patrons here, it just — they give that energy back, and it’s a cool feeling. So I used that a couple times today.”

Who Grant Horvat thinks will win out of Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau

Picking a winner from two of the best players in the world is a hard task here but given McIlroy has that two shot advantage, he should feel comfortable in finally winning at Augusta.

Indeed, after the eagle McIlroy made on 15 yesterday, popular YouTube golf star Grant Horvat proclaimed the tournament to be ‘over’.

As we know in golf, a two shot lead is literally a birdie and bogey swing on one hole and given how tricky the Augusta course is, we could see that in the opening holes.
