His fellow professional Laurie Canter has now shared his take on the home of The Masters, telling Golf Monthly: “How they prepare the course is different to anything I have ever seen.

“So that basically means that the tee shot, there will be quite a significant difference between if you are pitching down grain or into grain in terms of the amount of run.
“You have also got, because of the way they have cut the grass into you, it makes the striking of shots, especially chipping and pitching around the greens, you have to be more accurate.

“I have never played a golf course where the whole golf course is prepared like that. It’s like they have taken a difficult game and tried to make it as challenging as they possibly could!
“That was one thing which I definitely would have to look at going forward, whether that is from an equipment point of view or just a preparation one, from when you are going in, making sure you are practicing shots into the grain a lot.”
