Muirfield Village is in absolutely pristine condition for the Memorial Tournament right now.

The Memorial Tournament is one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour schedule.

Jack Nicklaus acquired the land in Dublin, Ohio, way back in 1966, but the first tournament was not played at Muirfield Village until 1976.

The Nicklaus-designed gem stretches out to over 7,500 yards off the back tees, and it provides an incredibly strong test for even the best golfers in the world.

After round three of the Memorial Tournament on Saturday, PGA Tour player Michael Kim suggested that Muirfield Village was so difficult to play that it ‘wasn’t even fun’.

It’s definitely one of the most challenging tracks on the PGA Tour, and Nicklaus has made numerous tweaks throughout the years after advice from the current players on tour.

So we know that some of the best players in the world struggle around Muirfield Village. But how did an eight-handicap amateur get on when given the chance to play Jack’s Place?

He is an eight-handicap golfer, so he certainly knows his way around the course.

So what did he shoot?

92 – a round of 20-over par – sounds bad for an eight-handicap golfer.

However, the difficulties faced by the best players in the world at the Memorial Tournament this week prove just how difficult the golf course really is.

Worst scores shot at Muirfield Village in the Memorial Tournament

It’s no surprise that Nicklaus has made Muirfield Village such a stringent test of golf.

He loved tracks like that during his heyday.

And here are some of the worst scores ever shot during the Memorial Tournament at Jack’s Place.

YearPlayer nameScore
1979Roger Maltbie92
1981Gary Hallberg88
2003Alejandro Larrazabal88
1990Mark Calcavecchia88
1990Mark McCumber88
1977Bob Goalby88

In 2025, there have been three 81’s and an 80 posted, and this is one of the most elite fields in the game remember.

So a 92 from Rick Golfs really wasn’t a bad effort at all.
