Cameron Young sent a big statement of intent at the Wyndham Championship this week.
Webb Simpson has made it very clear just how impressed he has been by Young’s performance at the Wyndham Championship
And the 2012 US Open champion, who will be a vice-captain at the Ryder Cup, is planning to speak to captain Keegan Bradley about Young’s display in North Carolina this week.
After his second round at the Wyndham, Young insisted that he hopes to make the Ryder Cup team in his home state next month.
That seemed like somewhat of a pipe-dream at the time, but now it is a very realistic prospect.

Young switched from hitting a fade to a draw before the Wyndham Championship began, and that now looks like an inspired decision.
So what’s next for Young? A Ryder Cup debut perhaps?
Webb Simpson sends message to Keegan Bradley about Cameron Young ahead of the Ryder Cup
Young made a very big statement at the Wyndham Championship this week.
His incredible performance means that he will undoubtedly now be on the radar of Bradley and his vice-captains.
Simpson was asked what he thought of Young as a golfer when he first met him.
He said: “I mean, we were playing most practice rounds together in every major when he first came out and I was trying to help him as much as I could. I never played a practice round with him here, so I didn’t give him any advice, but it doesn’t sound like he needs it.
“But man, I’m so happy for him because assuming he gets the job done, he’s one of those players, he’s unique in the sense everyone knew how good he was. There’s plenty of guys who we think are good enough to win, but you’re still not sure until you do it. He was a little different knowing, like we knew, everyone knew how good he was. I mean, he’s already played a Presidents Cup, he almost made a Ryder Cup in Rome. And I think he has a very high ceiling. He’s long. Now he’s 10th in putting this year so I think this will be one of those situations where assuming he wins today, he’ll be a guy we’re talking about for 10 or 15 years.“
The Ryder cup vice-captain was then asked what he believes has held the 28-year-old New Yorker back.
Simpson said: “Yeah, winning out here is hard. I don’t know exactly what it was, but I think anytime you’re trying to win, you’re dealing with other guys who can shoot 65 and beat you.

“I don’t recall many tournaments where he kind of gave it away, but he’s handling the pressure well right now, did great yesterday. And again, I think it happened for me where once I won here, I felt way more comfortable in contention the next time, which was two weeks later. So I’m sure he’ll be in contention here in the Playoffs.“
So what does he plan to tell captain Bradley about Young?
He said: “Man, I mean, Cam’s a New Yorker, I know he loves that golf course. Anytime you’re about to win by 10, you’ve got to talk about him. And he certainly has the right game for that golf course. He’s just adding his name to the list of many guys that are hard for us to say no to.“
How can Bradley not be impressed by what he has seen from Young this week?
The New Yorker has now put himself in a strong position to secure a captain’s pick for the showdown at Bethpage Black next month.
Cameron Young’s stats at the Wyndham Championship
Young has been in imperious form from start to finish at the Wyndham Championship this week.
It’s incredible to think that this will be his first ever PGA Tour win, if he goes on to get the job done of course.
Here are his stats from the tournament at Sedgefield Country Club this week:
| Stats | Young’s rank |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 2nd |
| Strokes gained approach | 22nd |
| Strokes gained around the green | 27th |
| Strokes gained putting | 1st |
| Strokes gained total | 1st |
The challenge now for the 28-year-old will be to keep producing the form he displayed this week for the remainder of the season.
And if Young does just that, he will almost certainly be joining Simpson and Bradley at the Ryder Cup in September.
