Phil Mickelson is widely regarded to be one of the very best exponents of the short game in professional golf, if not the best.
Mickelson has thrilled crowds all over the world with his wedge shots around the greens over the past three decades.
The 54-year-old somewhat tarnished his legacy in the game by leaving the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf in 2022.
Mickelson recently admitted that he’d like to play on the PGA Tour again at some point in the future.
And it really would be great if that happened.

However, it’s highly unlikely that a merger between the PGA Tour and LIV will ever happen, according to Brandel Chamblee.
That would be a real shame, because we as fans won’t get to see Mickelson showcase his short game alongside the best players in the world outside of the four majors.
Phil Mickelson claimed one bunker shot was the best he ever hit out the sand
Mickelson has hit some memorable shots out of bunkers during his 33 years playing professional golf.
However, one shot in particular stands out in his memory as the very best.
At the 2006 Memorial Tournament, Mickelson ended the week in fourth place, after shooting rounds of 69, 70, 70 and 70.
He played very well throughout the tournament, but Carl Pettersson pipped him to the win in the end.

That said, nobody really remembers that Pettersson won that week, but they do remember Mickelson’s incredible bunker shot during the final round at Muirfield Village.
In fact, Mickelson has often named the shot as the best he has ever hit out of a bunker in his entire career, and that’s saying something!
What an incredible shot that is – one that only a few golfers in the world could have pulled off.
Is Phil Mickelson a top-10 golfer of all-time?
Brandel Chamblee recently suggested that Mickelson is around the 15th best golfer of all-time.
However, that was probably more to do with his hatred for LIV Golf than anything else.
Mickelson surely makes the top-10. He has six majors – the joint 12th most of all-time and 45 PGA Tour events – the tied eighth most in history.
His popularity and exciting approach to playing the game are two more key factors as to why he should be inside the top-10 of all-time.
Whatever happens between now and the end of his career, Mickelson has left an indelible mark on the game of golf, that cannot be denied.
