Viktor Hovland is looking to emulate his 2023 FedEx Cup form as the PGA Tour playoffs get underway at the St Jude Championship.
TPC Southwind is set to host the St Jude Championship for the third consecutive year. After this week’s event in Memphis, the top 50 will advance through to the BMW Championship and also secure their place in the eight 2025 Signature Events.
Due to the importance of finishing in the top 50, there’s a strong argument to suggest the St Jude Championship is more important than the Tour Championship.
Hovland will be looking to end an eventful year on a high. After the Masters, Hovland was linked with a LIV Golf move and reunited with his old coach ahead of the PGA Championship.
However, results have still been inconsistent, and the Norwegian is hoping to return to form at a course he “absolutely loves.”

Speaking during his post-tournament media duties, Hovland claimed TPC Southwind is one of his favourite courses.
“I played like six holes yesterday on the back nine,” Hovland said. “10, 11, 12, 13 and then 17 and 18. It’s my fifth time here. I absolutely love the golf course.
He added: “I think it’s one of my favourite courses we play all year. I still haven’t played that great here yet, but I am just going to keep working on my things, and hopefully, this will be a better week.”
Viktor Hovland’s recent record at TPC Southwind
Despite the challenges, TPC Southwind is typically a low-scoring venue, and Hovland will need to go low if he’s to compete this week.
The Norwegian tied for 13th during the 2023 edition on ten under and tied 20th the year prior on eight under. It’s impressive stuff, but given the quality of the field, he must find more birdies around the Memphis venue.
Hovland’s 2023 playoff form should give the 26-year-old reason to be cheerful heading into the PGA Tour finale. The beauty of the FedEx Cup is that it rewards those who find form at the right time, and that’s something Hovland will be looking to emulate this week.
A fast start in Memphis, and who knows, the Norwegian could once again be firmly in contention for one of golf’s most profitable prizes.
