The US Open has returned to Oakmont Country Club, with the first round of the major championship now underway.
Oakmont is hosting the US Open for the 10th time this week, having last been the host venue for the competition in 2016.
The tournament was won by Dustin Johnson nine years ago, with the American in the field once again this time around.
He finished on four-under to lift the trophy, with runners-up Shane Lowry, Jim Furyk and Scott Piercy the only other players to finish under par.
Before that, Angel Cabrera won the US Open at Oakmont in 2007, where a winning score of five-over was enough to clinch the title.

Veteran PGA Tour caddies rank Oakmont difficulty as US Open arrives
Dan Rapaport doesn’t want a low US Open score this week, although that could be the case according to PGA Tour player Michael Kim.
Ahead of his appearance at the major, he wrote on X: “I’ve talked to some of the veteran caddies and players that played in 07 and 16.

“General consensus is that it’s playing similarly to 16. 07 sounds like it was stupid difficult. 1 green, 12 fairway were basically unhittable no matter the shot quality.
“3 green even now is pretty difficult to hit with any wind or firmness but it was even harder in 07. 2016 was really soft and 4 guys shot under par haha.
“It’s still a little soft right now but def getting faster each day. It might rain on the weekend though so we’ll see. Usually I have a decent idea on what’s a good score or not but I have no idea here.”
Winning US Open scores at Oakmont Country Club
Kim, a one-time winner on the PGA Tour, will certainly be hoping that Oakmont does not prove impossible this time around.
He has taken on both The Masters and the PGA Championship this season, and has been paired with Jhonattan Vegas and Matthieu Pavon for Thursday and Friday of the US Open.
| Year | Winner | Score |
| 2016 | Dustin Johnson | -4 |
| 2007 | Angel Cabrera | +5 |
| 1994 | Ernie Els | -5 |
| 1983 | Larry Nelson | -4 |
| 1973 | Johnny Miller | -5 |
| 1962 | Jack Nicklaus | -1 |
| 1953 | Ben Hogan | -5 |
| 1935 | Sam Parks Jr. | +11 |
| 1927 | Tommy Armour | +13 |
But there is simply no telling just how the scoring will go this week, both for the favourites and the hopefuls.
Kim is certainly in the latter category at this moment in time, but the conditions could prove equally difficult for the likes of world number one Scottie Scheffler.
