The US Open has already justified why it was expected to be the toughest in years. Here is some key information about the cut.

The third major championship on the calendar has returned to Oakmont Country Club for the first time since Dustin Johnson won in 2016.

Golf fans were extremely excited to watch the world’s best players struggle in brutal conditions, and the course has certainly delivered so far.

The Golfing Gazette explains how many players will make the cut at the US Open, predicts the cut line, and who could miss it.

How many players make the cut at the US Open

There are 156 players in the 2025 US Open field. The top 60 and ties after the second round on Friday will advance to the weekend.

The US Open previously allowed any player within 10 shots of the leader to make the cut regardless of their position, but that was scrapped in 2012.

US Open projected cut line

The cut line the last time Oakmont hosted the US Open (2016) was +6. Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Phil Mickelson did not make it.

The 2007 cut line was +10, as the conditions were more difficult than in 2016. Angel Cabrera eventually won the tournament on +5.

The cut line this week will be either 6 or 7 over par, depending on the final hours of Friday afternoon’s play.
