One of the biggest stories in golf in recent weeks has been the return of Anthony Kim and PGA chief Jay Monahan has been speaking about him as well.
Kim made a sensational return to golf with the LIV Tour. He signed a deal reportedly worth around £5m to compete on the PIF-backed tour.
Of course, Kim hasn’t played professional golf for 12 years until now. Before then, he was a popular figure on the PGA Tour and his return has definitely garnered interest in the LIV scene. Indeed, a final round of five under this weekend has helped Kim’s cause as well.

But speaking about Kim today in his presser before The Players, and addressing if Kim had been offered a route back to the PGA Tour, Monahan simply spelled out that Kim was told by the PGA team what would be required to get back in the mix.
Jay Monahan shares what was said to Anthony Kim before he signed for LIV Golf
Speaking (Sky Sports) in a long-winded presser ahead of this weekend’s tournament, Monahan conceded he’d not spoken to Kim himself. But there had been other conversations.
“I did not have direct conversations with Anthony. Members of our team did. And very clearly laid out what it would take for him to earn his way back to the PGA Tour. I’m glad he is healthy and well, and wish him well,” Monahan said.
Of course, Monahan has more pressing issues on his mind right now. And he was asked some difficult questions by journalists after his opening spiel.
Indeed, and in fairness to Monahan, one former player’s return to the PGA Tour is probably the least of his worries. In fact, his response here was quite dignified really.
Everyone wishes Anthony Kim well and like so many, he’s simply taken a big opportunity with LIV.
