US Open predictions
The Golfing Gazette experts have made their picks for the US Open this week.
Antony Martin: It’s Tommy’s time. 2nd place finish at Shinnecock in 2018 and holds the course record there. His ability to knock the ball down will be crucial with consistent 20mph+ winds expected all week. He deserves a major. This is his time.
Peter Lynch: Tommy Fleetwood is long overdue for a major win, and I think he has the game to do exactly that at Shinnecock. He’s great in windy conditions and in tricky rough, but will need to be strong mentally to get over the line this week.
James Shearman: Matt Fitzpatrick has arguably been the best player in the world in 2026, winning three tournaments. Having finished runner-up at last week’s Canadian Open, his incredible season looks set to continue. Fitzpatrick has also won a US Open before (2022), which must give him enormous confidence.
Jordan Harris: Russell Henley has unfinished business, having led after the first round at Shinnecock in 2018. Perhaps this is an overreaction after Aaron Rai proved many wrong at the PGA, but I have a good feeling Henley will be in the mix.
Charlie Walker: Xander Schauffele has been a ridiculously consistent performer in the US Open. His lowest finish ever in the event was a T14, and because of his accuracy with his irons, this is the week he climbs to the top of the mountain and wins America’s national open.
