Tyrrell Hatton is expecting sheer and utter carnage at Oakmont in the US Open this week.
Hatton is renowned for being a hot-head, but it will be more important than ever for him to keep his cool at Oakmont this week.
The 33-year-old Englishman’s game is actually suited well to contending at US Open venues.
This season on LIV he is ranked fourth in greens hit in regulation, although his driving has dropped off somewhat recently.
He’s currently ranked in a lowly T-29th position in the driving accuracy category.
Back in January, Hatton was being described as one of the most consistent players in the world, due to his world-class form.
However, he has undoubtedly cooled off since then, and has actually struggled with his game somewhat over the past couple of months.

And considering how difficult Oakmont will play, the LIV Golf star may well be in for another challenging week.
Tyrrell Hatton’s reaction after seeing the rough at Oakmont before the US Open
Hatton is well-known for not hiding his emotions, so to speak!
That’s actually putting it politely – Hatton’s behaviour on the course has been criticised on numerous occasions.
There will undoubtedly be numerous times when his patience is tested at Oakmont this week.
Here’s how the Englishman reacted when he saw the rough at Oakmont for the first time during a practice round on Monday:
After seeing his ball buried deep in the rough, Hatton said, “That is unreal. I only saw it because I was stood here. I’m set up over it and I actually can’t even see the ball.“

Then on another hole, the 33-year-old attempted to hit a seven-wood out of a thick lie, and completely skied it.
He said, “That is unreal! That is mad. You can see how deep it is because I have taken a proper divot out.“
Tyrrell Hatton’s best finishes at the US Open
Hatton has had little success at US Opens in the past.
Here are his four best results in the national championship of America.
| Year | Venue | Hatton’s finishes |
| 2018 | Shinnecock Hills | T-6 |
| 2019 | Pebble Beach | T-21 |
| 2024 | Pinehurst No.2 | T-26 |
| 2023 | Los Angeles Country Club | T-27 |
That record is a strange one given his consistency off the tee and his history of strong approach play.
However, one thing that is conducive to success at the US Open is a strong mentality and plenty of patience.
And in fairness, it’s questionable as to whether Hatton possesses either of those qualities.
