Rory McIlroy makes big prediction about Tyrrell Hatton and the 2025 Ryder Cup after seeing him win the Dubai Desert Classic

Rory McIlroy failed to make it three in a row at the Dubai Desert Classic as Tyrrell Hatton won out but the Northern Irishman has had some high words of praise for his Ryder Cup teammate.

Hatton held off Daniel Hillier and Laurie Canter to take his fifth Rolex Series event and propel himself into the upper echelons of the Ryder Cup standings ahead of Bethpage Black this year.

Not too far behind was McIlroy, who made a late charge on Sunday to finish just three shots shy of Hatton and get himself in contention.

Still, despite not winning, McIlroy was not too downbeat and found time to praise Hatton, as well as predict his performance in the Ryder Cup.

Speaking to the press immediately after coming off the course, McIlroy was asked about Hatton as he headed towards victory.

And according to McIlroy, Hatton is very much a model of consistency and will be a huge asset in the Ryder Cup.

“He’s become very consistent,” McIlroy said. “He does things his own way. He plays within his capabilities.

“He hits the ball very straight, he doesn’t try to shape it really one way or another. Hits it really straight and it looks like he has his sort of systems and the way he practices. He does a really good job at that. He also doesn’t give a flying fig what anyone else thinks which is a really good attribute to have in the game.”

Adding further comment on Hatton’s ability and attitude ahead of the Ryder Cup in September, McIlroy backed the Englishman to be a star of the show.

“He’ll be amazing in New York,” McIlroy added. “He’s proved that over the last three Ryder Cups. He’s a massive asset for the European team.”

While many looked at Hatton’s move to LIV Golf as a negative, it’s working out just nicely for him and this win in Dubai is the culmination of a fine run of form.

Hatton has been a star over on LIV and has ably supported Jon Rahm in the Legion XIII team.

Indeed, such is Hatton’s form, that it was no surprise really to see him come out on top in Dubai and put himself in contention for automatic selection for New York.

With the Masters coming up and a big year ahead in golf, Hatton could very much be in contention to end his majors duck and finally get one over the line.
