Tyrrell Hatton is on cloud nine after he fended off a challenge from Nicolas Colsaerts to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Hatton tied the course record at St Andrews with his stunning 61 on Saturday, taking a one-shot lead into the final round of the DP World Tour event.

He managed to extend that lead to three shots, only for Colsaerts to move alongside him with three holes of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship left.

But Hatton birdied the last to beat the Belgian by a single shot as he finished on 24 under on the Old Course in Scotland.

Rich Beem praised Hatton’s chip shot to set up the winning birdie, with the Englishman under huge pressure at that stage.

Hatton has a hugely impressive history at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, with victories also coming in 2016 and 2017.

His latest success sees Hatton become the first ever three-time winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, as per the DP World Tour.

Hatton now has his place in golfing history with the win in St Andrews, although that almost came in 2018 and 2021, when he finished as runner-up on both occasions.

He clearly enjoys playing at the competition, with this year’s field certainly tough to beat given it contained the likes of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.

Hatton’s LIV Golf teammate Jon Rahm meanwhile was also involved, with the Legion XIII captain finishing T7.

The victory follows on from Hatton’s T10 finish at last week’s Spanish Open, where Rahm lost in a play-off to compatriot Angel Hidalgo.

Second-placed Colsaerts can be extremely proud of his efforts on the Old Course, with Fleetwood finishing two shots behind him in third.
