It should come as absolutely no surprise at all that Tyrrell Hatton finds himself at the top of the leaderboard at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with one round to go, with the Englishman looking for his third title at the event.

Tyrrell Hatton was one of the raft of LIV Golf stars involved at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this week, with the 32-year-old looking to stake every possible claim to ensure that he is on Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team in New York next year.

The Legion XIII man ended the year on LIV extremely well, and he looks to be in with a fantastic chance of securing a second victory of 2024, with his first coming at LIV Golf Nashville.

Hatton was frustrated after his second round at Kingsbarns, feeling that he was struggling to hole anything. However, that certainly was not the case on Saturday.

Hatton seemed to be in a strong position, with his final two rounds set to be at St Andrews. And it is fair to say that he made a stunning charge. At one stage during the third round, he found himself four shots back of Nicolas Colsaerts after the Belgian made an albatross on the par five 16th at Kingsbarns.

However, Hatton would go on to match the course record at St Andrews, posting a 61 at the Old Course. He would make nine birdies and one eagle to move one shot clear of Colsaerts ahead of the final round.

‘Wow’

St Andrews can provide a fantastic opportunity to score well – Tiger Woods‘ 14 under par in 2005 is the worst winning score since the turn of the millennium when The Open has been held at the course. And it seems that Hatton took full advantage.

Certainly, plenty of golf fans were hugely impressed by Hatton’s score on Saturday as he gave himself a phenomenal chance of going one better than Legion teammate Jon Rahm after his play-off defeat last week…
