Tyrrell Hatton won the Alfred Dunhill Links for a record third time this weekend but his win was arguably overshadowed by talk of a LIV and PGA deal.

Hatton won out in fine fashion from Nicolas Colsaerts to make it a hat-trick at the Dunhill and show he’s very much still one of the best players around.

Hatton’s move to LIV has been among those to cause a stir but his win in Scotland means he can now play more events on the DP World Tour and give Ryder Cup qualification a big shot.

Of course, Hatton’s win was big for him but the main talking point in the opening few days was the sight of PGA Tour chief Jay Monahan and PIF’s main man, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, playing together.

And naturally, the story rumbled into Sunday as even once Hatton had won, he was asked about where he sees golf.

Tyrrell Hatton’s honest view on the future of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf

Speaking to the media immediately after winning at St. Andrews, Hatton was asked where he sees the current state and future of golf.

And in answering, he nodded towards Yasir Al-Rumayyan and Jay Monahan playing together.

“I mean, there’s guys that were obviously playing this week that are having those conversations to figure out how we come back together as a sport,” Hatton said.

“From my side, I’ve enjoyed playing where I’ve played this year, and I’ve enjoyed coming back and playing some DP World Tour events, as well, and events that mean a lot to me.

“So from my side, I know what events I want to play, and hopefully I can continue to keep playing them. I certainly don’t have the power to make decisions that need to be made, and from a player’s perspective, I just want to play golf.”

Hatton’s stance is right

Love him or hate him for going to LIV, Tyrrell Hatton’s comments here are pretty much spot on.

There were two men walking around the links this weekend who hold the keys to getting something sorted for the game of golf.

As far as Hatton is concerned, his focus lies purely on winning tournaments and doing the best he can.

He’s had a good year over on the LIV Tour and has showed he can cut it with the rest by winning this past weekend.

Quite where golf goes, is not in Hatton’s hands and he might even end up looking back as a big winner in all of this.
