Jason Day’s peak in 2016 is among the hottest streaks we have ever seen in golf.
He won seven PGA Tour events in 17 starts, including a PGA Championship, during his meteoric rise to world number one. His performances over that stretch were so elite that Adam Scott compared Jason Day to Tiger Woods after he won The Players.
And away from the course, Day has a universal approval rating. He’s golf’s “Mr Nice Guy”, and has dedicated much of his time in recent years to growing the game and handing out golf tips to amateur golfers, which is priceless from a former world number one.
His golf channel, ‘The Lads’, plays a significant role in the modern trend of YouTube golf, granting incredible access to the best players in the world for fans. And fellow PGA Tour member Tony Finau said Day does something ‘incredible’ with his channel that he really admires.

Tony Finau praises Jason Day’s ‘incredible’ YouTube channel
Finau recently made an appearance on Day’s YouTube channel alongside LPGA players Lydia Ko and Lilia Vu. It was prior to the Grant Thornton Invitational, as Day put Finau and himself up against Ko and Vu in a battle of PGA vs LPGA.
Speaking in a press conference before the Grant Thornton Invitational, where Finau plays alongside Vu, Finau heaped praise on Day for what his channel brings to golf.
When asked about his appearance on The Lads, Finau said, “Yeah, it was great. You have to tune in to see what happened in the match. We’ve got to wait for the drop, but we had a great time and I think Jason does a great job with his Lads golf.
Which four players do you choose?
“He puts a lot of his content out there, he puts a lot of his thoughts into his game out there, which I just think is an incredible thing for someone like him, World No. 1 player in the world, or ex No. 1 player in the world, a major champion.
“For him to share his kind of secrets, whether it be chipping, putting, he’s such an incredible player, to have a channel like that, I think for sports fans and golf fans you should be eating it up. Yeah, it was a lot of fun to shoot with them, and hopefully the fans enjoy our content we shot out there.”
YouTube channels like Bryson DeChambeau’s have given fans a closer look at the world’s best players, and it’s helped the sport’s popularity skyrocket in recent years. It’s nice to see Finau give Day some props for his role in that.
Lilia Vu explains why she was ‘so nervous’ to film with Jason Day
It seems that it’s not just fans who appreciate the opportunity to get to know Day a little better. Two-time major winner Vu said she was starstruck by Day, and was “so nervous” to be on his channel.
She said, “I was so nervous. At one point we had switched carts and I was riding with Jason and I had a really big fan girl moment. Hopefully it doesn’t make the video but I turned to him and I said, ‘I’m just the biggest fan ever’, and then I went on and rambled for like 20 minutes and talked his ear off.
What is the one golf rule you would change if you had the opportunity?
“It was so great to play with all three great players. So cool that we have a tournament where we’re able to have like the best golfers from each tour come and play.”
She’s right, it’s great to see the LPGA players playing alongside PGA players, and it’s just as cool to see Day put them head-to-head like this. This type of content from Day is YouTube golf at its best.
