Tommy Fleetwood is in a great position to finally get over the line and win his first PGA Tour event in what is his 162nd start.
Fleetwood has been the PGA Tour‘s ‘nearly man’ over the past few years, but no loss was more painful for him than when Keegan Bradley pipped him to the Travelers Championship back in June.
However, the 34-year-old Englishman has a great chance to put that disappointment to bed as he heads into the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship with a one-stoke lead over Justin Rose, and a further shot cushion over world number one Scottie Scheffler.
Fleetwood will play alongside Rose on day four of the St. Jude Championship, and that will probably be a good thing for him.
Either way, his game is in great shape, so he should have no fear about what Sunday may hold for him.
Fleetwood said himself after his second round 64 that he’s happy with how he has been playing in Memphis.
And aside from one bad hole on Saturday, he was very good once again during his third round at TPC Southwind.
Tommy Fleetwood picks the best shot he hit on day three of the FedEx St. Jude
Fleetwood will be confident heading into the final round in Memphis on Sunday.

However, his third round at TPC Southwind certainly didn’t pass without incident, after he double bogeyed his third hole.
Fleetwood responded when asked what he thought was the best shot he hit all day during round three of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
He said: “Probably, I think, the putt I holed for par on 4 was kind of a big putt. The 3rd was just such a kerfuffle and such a mess. It was not that bad of a second shot, but it’s obviously a terrible shot if it’s in the water. From there, drop, mess up the — sort of felt like the ball had moved when I hit it, thinned it over the back, just made a double from nothing really.
“Then 4, difficult shot today. I think that pin is probably the hardest on the green. I had 10 foot for par and I felt like that was a really important putt, and then go on to the 5th, which is one of the hardest holes on the course to make birdie. I felt like that was really important part of the round.“
Fleetwood’s ability to bounce back from his disastrous third hole on Saturday definitely should serve him well during the final round at TPC Southwind on Sunday.
That 10-foot putt he holed for par on the fourth hole was crucial, as it gave him a huge boost of confidence at just the right time.
Tommy Fleetwood’s stats from the FedEx St Jude Championship
Fleetwood drove the ball exceptionally well on day three in Memphis, but he hit his iron shots incredibly solid and putted well too.
Here are his numbers from the first three days of action at TPC Southwind this week:
| Stats | Fleetwood’s rank |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 5 |
| Strokes gained approach | 4 |
| Strokes gained around the green | 43 |
| Strokes gained putting | 8 |
| Strokes gained total | 1 |
Fleetwood will need to drive the ball straight and hit his irons close on Sunday, if he is to hold off Rose and Scheffler.
The key though, will be whether he is able to putt well under the pressure of a final round where he is leading the golf tournament.
That is something he has not yet been able to do throughout his entire career. Can he turn that around in Memphis on Sunday? Only time will tell.
