It really is remarkable how Tommy Fleetwood continues to maintain a positive mindset despite having missed out on winning so many times on the PGA Tour.

Fleetwood came up just short once again in his 162nd start on the PGA Tour, this time at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday.

The 34-year-old Englishman, who has seven DP World Tour wins to his name, looked like he was finally about to break his duck on the PGA Tour after he birdied 12, 13 and 15 at TPC Southwind on Sunday.

Fleetwood remained positive despite failing to win the St. Jude Championship, as he shared his mindset once again that it’s better to be in contention and lose rather than not to contend at all.

Justin Rose and J.J. Spaun produced great golf when it mattered most as Fleetwood finished with a whimper.

Fleetwood failed at the final hurdle at the Travelers Championship by bogeying his final hole at TPC River Highlands.

He parred the final hole at TPC Southwind, but that wasn’t enough to join Rose and Spaun in the playoff.

Tommy Fleetwood says if he has regrets after the final round of the FedEx St. Jude

Fleetwood must be wondering if he will ever get the job done on the PGA Tour now.

His failure to win the Travelers Championship in June would have been hard enough to take, but this one in Memphis may have hurt even more.

Fleetwood had the courage to speak to the media after his latest heartbreaking defeat.

He said: It’s hard to say. Going into that par five, it’s a poorish iron shot and then chose to go high but maybe could have gone low with my first chip.

And then 17. It was such an awkward yardage with the way the wind was and then having to hit a cut around those trees. I think there was some mud on the ball as well. Should get it up and down, didn’t hit the best putt there.

So you can look at what you wish you could have done. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. But that’s the stuff I will look at and think what could I have done better.

But I also want to think what I did do well. I really had to battle on that front nine, hit three mini drivers that I missed the fairway with and didn’t really have the rhythm with my irons.

I felt I scrambled really well and battled well and then the putt goes in on 12, birdied 13, good putt on 14 for par, 15. It was really rolling. I would much rather look at the good stuff but you want to know what you need to improve and take that final step.

Fleetwood will go again at the BMW Championship on Thursday and there would not be a more popular winner at Caves Valley than the Englishman.

Tommy Fleetwood’s stats on day four at the FedEx St. Jude Championship

Fleetwood’s best game deserted him on Sunday in Memphis, and his round of one-under par 69 was simply not good enough in the end.

Here are his stats from the final round at the St. Jude Championship:

StatsFleetwood’s day four rank
Strokes gained off the tee31
Strokes gained approach55
Strokes gained around the green51
Strokes gained putting10
Strokes gained totalT-30

Looking at those stats, it is clear to see that Fleetwood was nowhere near his best during the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

However, Fleetwood won’t stop working hard on his game to ensure that the next time he is in contention, he will get the job done.
