Tommy Fleetwood suffered yet another bitterly disappointing defeat on the PGA Tour, this time at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Fleetwood has become known as golf’s nearly man over the past few years, and is still waiting for his first win on the PGA Tour after 162 starts.

It must have become a mental block now for the Englishman. After all, he has seven DP World Tour wins to his name and has been one of the best performers at the Ryder Cup since 2018.

Fleetwood was paired alongside Justin Rose on day four of the St. Jude Championship, but it was his good friend who performed the best when it mattered most.

It was only back in June when Fleetwood threw away the Travelers Championship in the final round, and now history has repeated itself.

The 34-year-old’s wait for a win on the PGA Tour goes on.

However, the Englishman oozed class as he always does.

He spoke to the media and admitted that he was disappointed although he did offer a positive take on his failure to win again.

Fleetwood said:I’m obviously going to be disappointed. I think — I said last time, there’s a lot of positives to take, as much as I don’t really — I won’t feel like that right now. I’m just going to look at what I feel like I could have done and how close it was.

You know, we move on. There’s another week that’s next and I’ve just got to reflect on today and obviously keep pushing forward and try and put myself in that position again.

He was then asked what the support from the fans means to him.

Well, as long as they stay with me and stay on my side, then we can all look for the positives. Yeah, I’m lucky with the support that I get, and I have enjoyed — I haven’t been in contention much this year, and then Travelers obviously leading and I felt like it was a great atmosphere and I enjoyed playing in that atmosphere and then today again I get the crowd on my side and I love their support. I’m so appreciative of it. Kind of on this journey together here.

You just have to keep — all these experiences and these close calls, like I say, there’s no point in making or allowing them to have a negative effect on what happens next. What would be the point?

It was a great week. I did a ton of good stuff, and as disappointed as I am, I have to try to find the strength to make it all a positive experience and hopefully next time go again, put myself in that position again and we just go again.

Those comments were absolutely brilliant from Fleetwood and his time will almost certainly come very soon.

Tommy Fleetwood’s time will come on the PGA Tour

Fleetwood was far from his best on Sunday in Memphis.

He just needs to find a way to break the mental block that he has in getting over the line right now.

The Englishman has proven that he can perform under pressure during three separate Ryder Cups, and he wouldn’t have won seven times on the DP World Tour if he wasn’t clutch.

However, he needs to do some soul-searching now.

There must be a reason why Fleetwood continues to come up just short, like he did once again at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday.

He will find the answer, though. He’s too good not to.
