Tommy Fleetwood finally got the monkey off his back last month by winning his first PGA Tour event, and he did it in style at the Tour Championship.
Fleetwood enjoyed a fabulous season on the PGA Tour in 2025, but he had to wait until the final event of the season before he got his first win.
The Englishman was in dominant form during his win at the Tour Championship and there was poetic justice in the fact that his victory was accompanied by the most lucrative prize of all.
He suffered heartbreak earlier on in the season after losing the Travelers Championship to Keegan Bradley and when Justin Rose pipped him to the FedEx St Jude Championship.
Fleetwood set a great example after losing the Travelers Championship by accepting defeat with grace, and facing the media immediately after rather than hiding away.
American Ryder Cup captain Bradley passionately celebrating his Travelers win must have hurt Fleetwood.
Especially after the way in which the 34-year-old Englishman finished up his round at TPC River Highlands.
Tommy Fleetwood reveals what Bob Rotella told him after the Travelers Championship
Fleetwood has done a lot of work with sports psychologist Bob Rotella over the past two years.

And the highly revered sports mind guru has clearly made a big difference for the Englishman.
Fleetwood showed real courage to come back from two incredibly disappointing defeats to win at the Tour Championship.
At the time, it felt like his defeat at TPC River Highlands was one he may not be able to come back from.
And when speaking on the No Laying Up Podcast, he revealed what Rotella told him immediately after he bogeyed the final hole to lose the Travelers.
“I spoke to Bob Rotella about this afterwards and he was really good about it.
“So he told me that he didn’t think, you know, he wouldn’t say that how I played that shot or how I went about it was indecisive.
“I was in between two shots. As I walked into it, the way the wind swirls, Finno wasn’t happy with it, that’s fine. I pull away, go and choose the wedge (instead of a nine-iron).
“Bob Rotella said to me you stood in there, you made your decision, you stood up and hit your golf shot, it just wasn’t the right one.
“He made me feel really good about it because he said like if you were stood over it and put a bad swing on it or you were indecisive over the shot and put a bad swing on it that’s a different story.“
Tommy Fleetwood’s 2025 PGA Tour season in numbers
Fleetwood finished off his season in fine style.
Here are his results from the 2025 season as a whole:
| Results | Fleetwood’s totals |
| Events played | 19 |
| Wins | 1 |
| Top-5s | 7 |
| Top-10s | 8 |
| Top-25s | 15 |
| Money earned | $18,496,238 |
Given Fleetwood’s incredible quality, it’s barely believable that his first PGA Tour win came only one month ago.
Now that he finally has a victory in America to his name, many more will surely follow.
And he may have Mr Rotella to thank in part for the fact that he finally got the monkey off his back.
