Tommy Fleetwood broke an individual record on day one of the DP World Tour Championship.
The top 50 players on the DP World Tour are competing in the final event of the 2025 season in Dubai this week.
Fleetwood is too far behind Rory McIlroy to win the season-long Race to Dubai, but he could definitely win the tournament.
The Englishman’s chances improved after getting off to a great start in the first round, even setting a new personal best score.

Tommy Fleetwood breaks personal DP World Tour Championship record
Fleetwood is playing in his 13th consecutive DP World Tour Championship after making his debut at the event in 2013.
He has a good record at the Jumeirah Golf Estates, finishing runner-up in 2019 and 2023, but he has never won the tournament.
That could change this weekend after he shot an impressive seven-under-par 65 on Thursday, one stroke behind 18-hole leader Michael Kim.
Michael Kim’s message to PGA Tour players about the DP World Tour
This was Fleetwood’s lowest-ever round at the DP World Tour Championship, as his excellent form this season continues.
“Yeah, I feel like it was a really good day,” he reflected on the round. “I didn’t think it was that easy. There are some really good scores out there.
“I thought there were some really demanding shots on that back nine, and I felt like I got into a really good rhythm.
Should more American golfers play DP World Tour events?
“I drove it as good as I’ve driven it all year. It was a really good driving day. Yeah, it was a really good score.
“Like I said, there were a lot of demanding shots, and some pins were tucked away. I made two or three good par saves, which is key.”

Tommy Fleetwood comments on mental and physical improvement
Fleetwood is probably the third-best player in the world, behind only Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, following a breakthrough season on the PGA Tour.
He finally won for the first time in the United States at the Tour Championship, and then followed it up with another victory at the DP World India Championship.
Fleetwood was asked whether he attributes his development more to the physical or the mental side of the game.
“Probably both,” he replied. “I think you just try and continue to improve in every department of the game, and I think for sure, I’m on a really great run at the moment.
“My results have been really good. But I really think it’s consistency of like hard work in all areas, and you know, I’m very lucky with having great information from great people that are around me.
“I think we’ve been chipping away for a long time. We’ve played very consistently for a long time and now we’re just having a great run. Hopefully it’s not just a great run and this is how I play golf, but we’ve got to see what happens in the future.
“It’s been really, really good. I think always trying to consistently improve day in, day out, no matter how little that step may be, always try and do that. Every now and again, you get lucky and it shows.”
