Tom Kim may have finished six shots back of Scottie Scheffler at the Hero World Challenge, but he was one of the players who proved a real point in the Bahamas ahead of the 2025 season.
It was a tough year for Tom Kim, with the South Korean only managing to show glimpses of his potential. He lost out to Scottie Scheffler in a play-off at the Travelers Championship. Meanwhile, a late collapse in the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship saw him miss out on the last two play-off events.
However, Kim looked much more impressive at the Hero World Challenge last week. The 22-year-old posted the low round of the week at Albany with his third round of 62. It was a remarkable effort considering that he opened with a 75. Scheffler labelled his low round ‘special’. In the end, he managed to finish second.
Of course, the tournament was hosted by Tiger Woods. And Woods and Kim will be teammates for Jupiter Links Golf Club for the inaugural season of TGL in the new year.
Tom Kim shares what he spoke to Tiger Woods about during the Hero World Challenge
Kim was asked about TGL ahead of his appearance in the Grant Thornton Invitational this week. And while he expressed his excitement about the league, he did admit that there will be hurdles to clear. He also shared what Woods said about the challenges when they spoke at the Hero.
“Yeah, so the first question, I think it’s a very, very different dynamic. I think it’s very good for the game because a lot of us, golf tournament-wise, a lot of us are spread out, so you’ll have a really good group go out in the morning and you’ll have another group go out in the afternoon, so they kind of have to be there the whole day,” he said.

“With this format, it’s two, three hours, I think. We’re all in the same room and you have live betting, you have live audiences. I think basketball, soccer, you’re always kind of everyone’s in one room and I think for the first time golf is going to that.
“It’s going to be really good for the fans. I think it’s going to be really cool for us players because it’s more of a team event. This is an individual sport, so to be more inside a team environment is going to be really cool.
“Secondly, it is kind of difficult because a lot of it is on the Monday and Tuesdays of our normal tournaments. If it’s not the weeks that we’re playing, it’s really easy, but some of the events where it might be an elevated event, you have to go all the way to Florida to play, it is difficult, it’s not easy.
“I think it’s our job as players to figure that out. And I talked to Tiger last week about it and that was a big thing for him like growing up and becoming the best player in the world is despite those situations, kind of adjusting and proving that besides going through all that, being able to go out and still win, it gave him that edge. Try to use that mentality to try to use everything to my advantage.”
How Jupiter Links’ fixture list fits with the PGA Tour schedule
It is going to be tricky managing the schedule for some of the players. Two of Jupiter Links’ fixtures take place in the week of a signature event, with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am coming after they play against Rory McIlroy‘s Boston Common side. Meanwhile, the Arnold Palmer Invitational starts in the days after their final fixture.
| Fixture Date | Opponent | PGA Tour event that week |
| 14th January | Los Angeles Golf Club | The American Express |
| 27th January | Boston Common Golf Club | AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am |
| 18th February | New York Golf Club | Mexico Open |
| 25th February | The Bay Golf Club | Cognizant Classic |
| 4th March | Atlanta Drive Golf Club | Arnold Palmer Invitational |
The slight upside is that they are already in the right state for Bay Hill. But clearly, some players are going to find the challenge of managing those demands a little more challenging than others.
It will be fascinating to see which players thrive in the TGL atmosphere. There will be plenty of intrigue to see how competitive Woods is. Meanwhile, Kim’s appearances in the Presidents Cup perhaps provide an insight into how he may behave.
It also appears to be a phenomenal opportunity for Kim to work closely with Woods. He will be the envy of many over the next couple of months.
