If you’re Rory McIlroy right now, you must very much be on cloud nine after finally winning The Masters and getting that beloved green jacket draped across the shoulder.
After a rollercoaster back final 18, McIlroy finally saw off Justin Rose in a playoff to win the Masters and put himself among the greatest to ever do it.
With such a burden lifted, one could be excused for thinking McIlroy was simply focussed on the green jacket and just what that meant to him.
But, in fairness to the Northern Irishman, winning at Augusta seems even bigger than just that green blazer.

Why Rory McIlroy was desperate to win The Masters
After so many near-missed, seeing Rory McIlroy get over the line and win the Masters was a special feeling.
However, while for some it might have been all about that green jacket moment, McIlroy himself has suggested there is even more to it.
Indeed, reflecting on his Masters win, McIlroy has suggested that the sheer lure of and tradition of being a Masters champion is what drove him.
“I’ve always loved this golf course. I’ve always loved the membership, the traditions, the history, everything that is good about golf, this club represents,” McIlroy quipped.
“To know you can come back to Augusta National every year as a champion. Use the champions locker room. Get to go to the champions dinner. Honestly as a golfer, it’s the greatest honour and privilege that can be bestowed upon you. Absolutely amazing.”
Can Rory McIlroy win a true grand slam?
While winning the career grand slam is quite the achievement, Rory McIlroy is playing so well right now that there’s a feeling he could do it all in one year.
Yes, winning all four majors in a calendar year is nigh on impossible and even the great Tiger Woods didn’t quite manage it.
But McIlroy is playing so well right now and seems so confident, that winning all four in a calendar year seems possible.
A lot will need to happen and fall into place for McIlroy to win the grand slam proper, but right now, he’s playing so well that really, anything is possible.
