With the golf season now over a quarter of the way through the 2025 season, it seems pretty absurd to think that two of the top three players in the world are yet to win an event, as both Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele struggle to get it done.

After Scheffler dominated so much in 2024 and Schauffele had his best year with two majors won, expectations were high heading into 2025.

However, both players have suffered with injury prior to the season commencing and as of now, neither look like being at their best.

Scheffler, of course, has kept himself in and around contention in plenty of events without ever really challenging, while Schauffele seems further away.

With Rory McIlroy in dominating form himself, there’ll be a worry among some in America that their two golden boys are feeling the heat.

And speaking on the pair, golf analyst Todd Lewis has had his say on who is struggling the most.

Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele’s form assessed after winless 2025 so far

Lewis was speaking on the latest episode of the Rex and Lav podcast, he was asked about the form of Scottie Scheffler and then, who he is concerned for most out of Scheffler and Schauffele.

When it comes to Scheffler, Lewis admitted he feels he’s not far off.

“I don’t think he’s far off. I really don’t. I think he’s still battling with himself a bit cos at this point now he’d won four times on the PGA Tour in 2024 and he’s still searching for his first win,” Lewis said.

“It’s interesting, Scottie Scheffler is a guy who doesn’t live in expectations, he definitely doesn’t live in future expectations. He stays present. But we’ve talked about this at The Masters. It’s very challenging to not think about results when you’re Scottie Scheffler and you’ve been the dominant number one player in the world.

“Obviously he had that setback with his hand, tried to push it. But I don’t think he’s far off. I think he’s going to have a cluster of wins pretty soon, maybe two in the next three to four months and we’ll see what happens. He’s still sold, still very consistent.”

Lewis was then pressed further on the level of concern he has for Schauffele and Scheffler and conceded that right now, it is the world number one who is pushing things more.

“Good question. Concern is a big word. I think that’s a big word. I don’t have much concern about either of them,” he continued.

“Which one maybe pushing it a little more or want it quicker, I’d say maybe Scottie. Xander is being a little more patient and understanding what he went through when the season started. Both of those guys though are going to be huge factors in big moments going forward.”

Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele’s 2025 results so far

Being in the top three in the world comes with expectations and for both Scheffler and Schauffele not to have won yet does seem odd.

Then again, Collin Morikawa is ranked number four and he hasn’t won since 2023, while number five Ludvig Aberg is yet to finish on top either.

In terms of 2025 results, it does seem like it is Scottie who is nearing the win over Xander.

Clearly, an out of form Scheffler is a dangerous player as his results show but with Schauffele ticking off three top 20s in his last three starts, he’s also not too far away.

Come the PGA Championship in a few weeks, both players will be among the favourites.
