Justin Thomas won the RBC Heritage, after beating Andrew Novak in a play-off on Sunday.

Thomas had been absent from the winner’s circle for three years heading into the RBC Heritage.

However, the 31-year-old has put himself in great positions time and time again, most recently at the Valspar Championship last month.

Karma was on Thomas’s side after he called a penalty on himself on Saturday, when he unintentionally caused his ball to move on the second hole.

The American PGA Tour star totally deserved his win at Harbour Town Links on Sunday.

A final round of three-under par 68 was good enough to get into a play-off, and he emerged victorious after his birdie in sudden death.

Thomas chalked up his 16th PGA Tour win of his career.

That puts him just outside the top 50 on the all-time list – an incredible achievement given the fact that he’s only 31.

There is no doubt that he will go on to win many more as well.

Immediately after holing the winning putt, Thomas spoke to Amanda Balionis.

And he made a quite incredible revelation:

It is so hard to force the issue on a course like this. It is so firm and so fast. It was so fun to play. I am really proud of myself today, how patient I was, and I just plotted my way around. I said to Joe coming up 18, I have never made a putt to win a tournament before of length. A bit fortunate to have a lot of tap ins but I have never made a putt. It was pretty cool. It was as fun as I thought it would be!

It’s hard to fathom that he’s never holed a putt to win a tournament in his career, when you think he has 16 victories to his name.

Justin Thomas explains why he hadn’t won in so long on the PGA Tour

Winning is hard on the PGA Tour, that’s the bottom line.

And Thomas explained how his trophy drought was simply down to a case of trying too hard:

“I’d say the majority of it has just been pressing and trying too hard,” Thomas admitted. “It’s so… I mean, all of us, I would assume, want to win so bad, and I want to win so bad.

“I’m sick of getting asked. I almost feel like I’m kind of past the point where, fortunately, you all have stopped asking me, which is nice, but I would also prefer to get that over with.

“I think it’s just that’s something I feel like I did so, so well there for a couple of years, is I just let tournaments come to me and I just trusted in my ability. That’s just really been my key this week is I’m just trying to really trust my game and commit to what I’m doing.

“I have a lot of faith and confidence in what I can do. So I just need to let it happen.”

At least Thomas won’t be asked that question again, for a while at least, after his win at the RBC Heritage on Sunday.
