While there is huge anticipation ahead of every Ryder Cup, there seems to be something a little different about the prospect of 2025’s event at Bethpage Black.
Of course, the Ryder Cup is widely considered to be the greatest event in golf. Certainly, no event comes with the same atmosphere. And there are a number of subplots heading into New York next year.
USA are looking to prove a point after such a disappointing showing in Rome last year. Ultimately, the 16.5-11.5 scoreline flattered Zach Johnson’s side. Meanwhile, Luke Donald is looking to establish himself as one of Europe’s greatest ever captains by winning at home and away.
The appointment of Keegan Bradley as the American captain raised plenty of eyebrows. Few would have ever imagined that Bradley would get the nod, particularly when he appears to be enjoying something of a renaissance in his playing career.
Tiger Woods looks ahead to the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage
Tiger Woods reportedly turned down the captaincy before Bradley was appointed. But it would be no surprise to see him involved in some capacity at Bethpage. And speaking to Golf Channel during the final round of the Hero World Challenge, Woods shared what he is already expecting at the event.

“It’s going to be incredible either way. Our fans are going to be so exciting. We have had US Opens there and they have been electric. I can’t imagine what is going to be like at the Ryder Cup,” he said.
How Woods has fared in the Ryder Cup during his career
It would certainly help create a further buzz if Woods was involved at the Ryder Cup. He remains the biggest superstar in the game – even if his record in the event is nowhere near as good as it should be.
It is quite incredible that Woods has only won one Ryder Cup as a player, despite making eight appearances in the event. That win came all the way back in 1999 at Brookline.
Woods has played in 37 matches, winning 13 of them. Perhaps unsurprisingly, his most successful format over the years has been the singles, with the 15-time major champion winning four of his eight matches.
| Tiger Woods’ Ryder Cup career | |
| Events played | 8 |
| Matches | 37 |
| Points won | 14.5 |
| Overall record (W-L-H) | 13-21-3 |
| Singles record | 4-2-2 |
| Foursomes record | 4-9-1 |
| Fourball record | 5-10-0 |
| Ryder Cup victories | 1 (1999) |
The crowd are likely to be hugely beneficial to the American team – just as they were at Brookline 25 years ago. It definitely has the potential to be one of the greatest stagings of the event, particularly if Europe are able to stand their ground and threaten to become the first away side since 2012 to win the Ryder Cup.
