Rory McIlroy just could not get going over the final two rounds of the Genesis as he battled away to finish inside the top 15 at Torrey Pines.
Despite being in contention after rounds one and two, McIlroy went completely cold with the putter to fall out of contention and tumble down the leaderboard.
Despite McIlroy being tipped to outdo Scottie Scheffler, the Northern Irishman just couldn’t find his best.
Indeed, McIlroy was forced to defend caddy Harry Diamond early on in round four and it was clear that his head was perhaps not fully where it should be to go and win a golf tournament.
And assessing both McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, 15-time major winner Tiger Woods gave his verdict from the commentary booth.

Tiger Woods assesses Rory McIlroy’s Genesis performance
In what is always a good listen, Tiger Woods joined the announce team for the final few holes and was there to comment on a number of players coming down the stretch.
And when it came to McIlroy, Woods admitted the whole game just didn’t seem there for him this week.
“He has had a bad week. He has driven it half way decent. Hit his irons well but somehow can’t shake anything in,” Woods said.
As for Scheffler, Woods stopped short of giving his verdict on his week but admitted that he finds watching Scheffler mesmerising in a way.
“Scottie when he plays it is very mundane. He has a lot of footwork but he knows how to score,” Woods added.
Tiger Woods’ verdict on Maverick McNealy
With Maverick McNealy being the man to beat for much of the final round, Tiger was also there to assess his fellow American’s performance.
“It is not shocking. He has been playing better. Got a recent win. He has been trending in the right direction. It is not that shocking that he is up there,” Woods said of McNealy.
With another American showing form early in 2025, it looks like the American Ryder Cup team could have a big selection dilemma for Bethpage Black.
