Tiger Woods’ former coach, Hank Haney, has admitted his shock at “garbage” he’s recently heard about LIV Golf star Jon Rahm.
The Spaniard emphatically capped his debut LIV season after winning the Individual Championship at Bolingbrook Golf Club in Chicago.
Rahm banked $22 million and is now amongst the highest-earning athletes in 2024.
It hasn’t been all plain sailing for the two-time major winner, however.
During LIV Golf’s Greenbrier event, Rahm was linked with a PGA Tour return after rumours of discontent emerged. Greg Norman shot the LIV exit talk down, and now, Haney has ravaged the initial story.
Hank Haney backs Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf decision

Speaking during his latest podcast, Haney claimed the story on Rahm’s return to the PGA Tour couldn’t have been further from the truth.
“All that garbage about Jon Rahm not being happy on the LIV Tour couldn’t have been further from the truth,” Haney explained. “He said he had a phenomenal experience out there this year; he loved playing all over the world: Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and England. He said the crowds were fantastic. When they played in the USA, it was fantastic, and when it was played overseas, he’s looking forward to next year when the first four tournaments overseas.”
The American continued: “They are really taking golf to a different part of the world, in many cases, which is golf-starved. That’s why they are paying these countries, the tourism department or whoever, reportedly between two and three hundred million dollars to go to these places and have a golf tournament.”
Jon Rahm PGA Tour return story was clearly fabricated
The initial story on Rahm returning to the PGA Tour was clearly blown out of proportion by the author. Jaime Diaz – from Golf Digest – quoted a source who had suggested the Spaniard was regretting his move to LIV.
Of course, Rahm is probably unhappy with some parts of the breakaway tour, but that doesn’t mean he’s desperate to leave Norman’s venture.
Given his form in his debut season, Rahm looks at home and is far from ready to turn his back on his new employers.
