Bryson DeChambeau must be wondering how exactly he came away from both LIV Golf Miami and The Masters empty-handed earlier this month.
It is remarkable to think that Bryson DeChambeau has not won on LIV Golf since 2023. But of course, the 31-year-old seems to have found a way to make sure that he peaks at the majors.
So it seemed ominous for his rivals ahead of The Masters that DeChambeau was in the mix to win LIV Golf Miami. However, a three over par final round put paid to his hopes of victory at Doral.
He initially put that disappointment to one side at the first major of the year. DeChambeau registered, by far, his best Masters finish to date in 2024 as he finished sixth. And he improved upon that again this time around.
The problem Bryson DeChambeau has Hank Haney cannot believe he has not fixed yet
In fact, DeChambeau found himself in the final group on Sunday alongside Rory McIlroy. McIlroy had a two-shot advantage. But the American arguably had the psychological edge given that he had snatched the US Open from the European last year, while McIlroy was also chasing down the career grand slam.
DeChambeau did take the lead after the second hole. However, he went backwards from there, and by the 13th tee, his challenge appeared to be over.
And speaking on The Hank Haney Podcast, Hank Haney admitted that he is baffled that DeChambeau has not addressed a fault which really cost him at Augusta.

“DeChambeau didn’t have anything pretty much all day. Nothing but a hook, and then I heard him on the mic one time saying, ‘I can’t hold it off’, he’s talking about holding off the hook through the shot. ‘I’m trying to, I just can’t hold it off’, is what he said, mumbling to his caddie. I thought to myself, bud, you’re 100 yards across the line at the top of your swing, your club’s so far pointed across the line, you’re not going to hold it off from there, that club’s going to whip-shot on you every single time,” he said.
“I can’t believe he doesn’t fix that. As smart as that guy is, I can’t believe he doesn’t fix that. Love to watch him play, my favourite player to watch, Bryson DeChambeau, love his attitude, love how he interacts with the fans, love how he much loves to play, love how hard he works. Didn’t have it though.”
Sir Nick Faldo joined Haney in criticising Bryson DeChambeau after The Masters
It is interesting that Haney views DeChambeau’s big problem as being a fault with his swing. He is not the only person to ask questions of the two-time US Open champion in the wake of his performance at The Masters.
Sir Nick Faldo faced suggestions that he was particularly harsh on DeChambeau while on commentary at The Masters. Faldo denied the claims, but did share where he does not see eye to eye with the Crushers captain.
“I like the guy. I texted him after he won the US Open. I don’t like the way he plays at times, which I’m allowed to criticise. He said he was going to attack Troon last year. You don’t attack a links, you thread it down there. I’m not sure about his strategy, but he is great entertainment. I’m a fan,” he said.
Some expect DeChambeau to potentially win another major this year. But clearly, he has still got plenty of work to do before he realises his full potential.
