The PGA Tour continues to go full steam ahead towards the Masters, with the Texas Children’s Houston Open now following the Valspar Championship.

Viktor Hovland still wants to improve for the Masters after triumphing at the Valspar Championship, where he won by one shot.

Hovland edged past Justin Thomas at Innisbrook Resort, with the Norwegian claiming his seventh win on the PGA Tour.

Thomas has been praised after his near miss at the Valspar Championship, where he held a two-shot lead in the latter stages of the final round.

Neither Hovland nor Thomas are in the field for this week’s Texas Children’s Houston Open, but Patton Kizzire is taking on the event.

Patton Kizzire issues apology after kicking his putter at the Valspar Championship

And that comes despite the three-time PGA Tour winner withdrawing during the first round of the Valspar Championship with a back injury.

Just before that withdrawal, the American was captured kicking his putter with some force on the 15th green.

Kizzire has now issued an apology regarding the incident, saying in a video on his Instagram: “Hey, everybody, Patton Kizzire.

“I just wanted to address the situation at the Valspar Championship last week. I wasn’t feeling well and I certainly lost my cool.

“It wasn’t my putter’s fault. I just lost my cool, and it’s unacceptable. I’m looking forward to being a better version of myself and I appreciate you guys understanding.”

Patton Kizzire continues nightmare PGA Tour season at the Valspar Championship

Kizzire was evidently frustrated after missing a five-foot putt on the 15th at the Copperhead Course, with the incident taking place in the first round.

He hit his remaining few putts with a wedge after leaving his putter bent, before withdrawing just two shots into the 18th.

The situation absolutely epitomises Kizzire’s season so far, with the 39-year-old missing the cut in six of his eight PGA Tour events in 2025.

Kizzire, who last won at the 2024 Procore Championship, finished T40 at The Sentry before continuing his season with six missed cuts and now a withdrawal.

Golf fans want a punishment for Kizzire after his outburst, which quite clearly went against the spirit of the sport and set a bad example for the many watching on.
