Rory McIlroy’s driving has always been a strong point of his game. The Northern Irishman can carry the ball further than almost anyone on the professional scene.

Billy Horschel believes McIlroy was the game’s number-one driver, and the four-time major winner rarely loses strokes off the tee.

McIlroy is often revered as the longest player on the PGA Tour; however, there’s one American player who actually hits the ball further than the 35-year-old.

Cameron Champ is the only player on the PGA Tour who has averaged further off the tee during the 2024 season.

Three-time PGA Tour winner Champ has managed 323.3 yards off the tee, which is three yards further than McIlroy this season.

Kevin Dougherty, Byeong Hun An and Alejandro Tosti make up the rest of the top five on the PGA Tour this season.

McIlroy, however, is leading the way on the DP World Tour this season. The Northern Irishman is averaging 327 yards off the tee on the European circuit.

The four-time major winner is currently competing at the DP World Tour Championship and is in contention during the third round. McIlroy struggled with his driver on day two but has steadied the ship at the Earth Course.

Rory Mcllroy strokes gained off the tee

It comes as no surprise to see McIlroy among the leaders when it comes to strokes gained off the tee on the PGA Tour.

McIlroy sits fourth on the PGA Tour, picking up an average of 0.73 shots per round.

Champ, however, leads the way with strokes gained an average of 0.879. World number one Scottie Scheffler is second, and Kevin Dougherty is third.

Despite picking up shots off the tee and being one of the longest hitters, McIlroy currently ranks 80th on par-fives, which is undoubtedly an area for the Northern Irishman to improve in 2025.
