Valspar Championship expert picks
The Golfing Gazette experts have made their picks for this week’s Valspar Championship.
Jordan Harris: Just five players on the PGA Tour have been better from tee to green than Austin Smotherman, and no one has been better with their approach play. His putting is a concern, but Innisbrook is going to penalise those who are particularly wayward off the tee.
Charlie Walker: After a concerning stretch at the start of the season, Viktor Hovland looks to be rounding into form in the lead-up to The Masters. He’s back with his old swing coach and driver, and those changes have worked brilliantly over the last two weeks. After a solid showing at The Players, this is the week Hovland gets back to winning ways!
James Shearman: The golf course at the Innisbrook Resort is tailor-made for ball-strikers, and there are few better than Ryo Hisatsune. The Japanese golfer ranks eighth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained tee-to-green, with top 15 finishes at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players. All Hisatsune needs is an average putting week and he should be at the top of the leaderboard.
Antony Martin: Brooks Koepka. He is trending and knows how to win around tough golf courses.
