For many, Tiger Woods’ stretch of golf through 2000 and into 2001 is the gold standard. Four consecutive majors was a seemingly impossible challenge.
Woods’ 2000 US Open win kicked off an incredible run, which saw him win the Open Championship at St Andrews just a month later.
Woods’ final major win in 2000 came at the PGA Championship after he beat Bob May in a dramatic three-hole playoff. Had Woods not finished six shots back of Vijay Singh at the 2000 Masters, a season-long grand slam could have been in the reckoning.
However, the 26-year-old was to make history at Augusta National the following year. Fresh off winning three majors in a row and dealing with intense media noise, Woods won a fourth successive major after finishing two strokes ahead of David Duval. The feat was unique and capped what some say is the best run of form in the sport’s history.
Woods, however, believes he went one better in 2008.
Tiger Woods’ best run of form

Speaking during the Chevron World Challenge in 2008, Woods claimed his six-tournament stretch was the best he’d ever played.
“I think I played better in this stretch than I have at any time in my career,” Woods said.
“I may have won more major championships but I certainly have never have been in contention in as many events or won as many events in a row. I had a pretty good run; what, nine out of ten events or nine out of 11 events, something like that. That’s not too bad.”
The highlight of Woods’ 2008 season came during the US Open at Torrey Pines after he beat Rocco Mediate in a dramatic 19-hole playoff.

Tiger Woods’ 2008 PGA Tour record
Hampered by injury, Woods played just six events in 2008 but managed to rack up four victories.
His first came at the Buick Invitational, where he finished at 19 under. Woods then won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill and the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.
The former world number one then finished runner-up at the Masters before winning the US Open at Torrey Pines. Playing with a severely injured leg, the San Diego major was Woods’ last outing of the year.
Woods returned to the course in January 2009 and won his first event of the year at Bay Hill in March.
