Tiger Woods made his golfing return on Tuesday night as his Jupiter Links side were beaten by New York to put a big dent in their hopes of making the TGL playoffs at the end of the season.
There would have been plenty of intrigue surrounding Tiger Woods following his decision to not play in the Genesis Invitational. Of course, the event at Torrey Pines came shortly after the passing of his mother.
But it was noted that Woods was looking uncomfortable on the range on Sunday at the Genesis Invitational as he prepared to hand the trophy over to Ludvig Aberg later in the day.
Unfortunately, Woods was unable to inspire his side to a victory in TGL. But he did provide one of the most incredible moments of its inaugural season in their loss to New York.
Matthew Fitzpatrick baffled by Tiger Woods moment in TGL
Woods had just under 200 yards left on the 13th hole when some chatter began surrounding his club choice. It turned out that the 15-time major champion had taken the claim that he had ’99’ left too literally, and it soon became apparent that he only had a wedge in his hand.
Both Tom Kim and Kevin Kisner were left in hysterics as Woods left his shot 100 yards short. And Woods would go on to admit that he has rarely felt more humiliated on the golf course.
“That was one of the most embarrassing things to ever happen. I can’t believe that just happened,” he said.
His opponents meanwhile, seemed to be in no mood to stop Woods from hitting that particular shot. Matthew Fitzpatrick admitted that he could tell something was not quite right as he was asked for his reaction.
“Just, that looks like a wedge. It was a little bit odd. And it went like a wedge,” he said.

How Tiger Woods reacted to Kevin Kisner’s thinned bunker shot earlier in the season
Unfortunately, it is not the first time that Jupiter Links have made a hilarious mistake in their brief TGL history, with Kevin Kisner leaving everyone stunned in their opening match.
Of course, Kisner thinned a bunker shot which thankfully smashed into the flag. Otherwise, the ball was probably heading to the other side of the arena.
And Woods showed very little sympathy when asked about that incident after their opening match.
“Well, we honestly didn’t think that anyone could possibly get hit in here. But that was one of the funniest moments I’ve ever seen, Kis hitting that shot like that. We were just dying,” he said.
“The chip shot, the next one should have gone in. That would have been just like the most all-world 3, and it was just one of those weird nights. Then on top of that, Kis has — is the microphone still stuck in your ear?”
Interestingly, it does appear that Woods and Rory McIlroy could be about to miss out on the playoffs in TGL, with both of their sides in the bottom two as we enter the final stages of the regular season.
