Sony Open 2025 expert picks

The Golfing Gazette writers predict who they think will lift the Sony Open trophy on Sunday:

Jordan Harris: Second shots are so important on this golf course, while the greens could hardly be easier to putt on. Therefore, Corey Conners is getting the nod to build on his impressive showing at The Sentry. Remarkably, the Canadian was first for strokes gained on the greens in Maui. If he is anywhere near that position at the Sony Open, he has an amazing chance.

James Shearman: Austin Eckroat was one of the rising PGA Tour stars in 2024, winning the Cognizant Classic and World Wide Technology Championship. The latter was only two months ago and he appeared to carry his form over to 2025 with a solid 15th-place finish at The Sentry last week. With his excellent approach game, the 25-year-old in with a shout at the Sony Open.

Sam Stone: The obvious choice is Hideki Matsuyama, but given how hard it is to win back-to-back on the PGA Tour, Russell Henley could stand a chance. The American is consistently in contention and one of the best putters around. In what is a slightly weakened field, I am backing him to win here.
