Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood teamed up once again in the opening session of the Ryder Cup as they took down Harris English and Collin Morikawa in devastating fashion.
McIlroy and Fleetwood are becoming the two anchors of the European team and they comfortably saw off the American duo 5&4 after Fleetwood holed another fine putt to seal the win.
For the British duo, who are so close off the course as well, it was the ideal tonic and start as Team Europe raced into a 3-1 lead after the opening session.
In the end, a hapless English and Morikawa could only look on.
However, they can take solace in the fact that over the last two Ryder Cups, they aren’t the only ones to suffer.

Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood’s foursomes record after beating Collin Morikawa and Harris English
There is an unquestionable bond between Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy and that translates on the golf course as well.
In this morning’s opening session, the pair were simply on another level as they knocked off approach after approach and putt after putt to put the Americans to the sword.
Indeed, while Morikawa and English were left shell-shocked, it shouldn’t come as a surprise.
In fact, a stat shared by Justin Ray has proved just how tough McIlroy and Fleetwood are to beat in the foursomes.
McIlroy and Fleetwood are now undefeated in three foursomes matches. They beat Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele on day one in Rome, before beating Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in the afternoon session.
The duo will likely go out again on day two, where Luke Donald will hope his key duo make it four from four.

McIlroy and Fleetwood look unbeatable
At the level we are seeing in the Ryder Cup, any of the players on display are capable of beating the others.
However, with Fleetwood and McIlroy, it looks like they’ve got to a point where they almost look invincible.
| Team USA | Team Europe |
| Bryson DeChambeau/Justin Thomas | Jon Rahm/Tyrrell Hatton |
| Scottie Scheffler/Russell Henley | Ludvig Aberg/Matthew Fitzpatrick |
| Collin Morikawa/Harris English | Rory McIlroy/Tommy Fleetwood |
| Xander Schauffele/Patrick Cantlay | Viktor Hovland/Robert MacIntyre |
On day one at Bethpage, Morikawa and English barely laid a glove on them and it would be some surprise to see Luke Donald change tack on day two.
Right now, the duo are leading the way and if Europe do win out come Sunday, you’d imagine it was down to Fleetwood and McIlroy’s involvement.
