The PGA Tour and its commissioner have been under fire for some time now from golf fans around the world but the latest announcement has only served to increase the pile on it seems.

With Monahan front and centre of discussions with the PIF and LIV Golf over a deal to bring the game back closer together, he’s become an easy target at times for fans.

Of course, it’s not all down to Monahan as there’s a team behind him, as well as player directors like Tiger Woods and Adam Scott who are having a big say.

Still, with President Trump now weeks into his second spell in charge and suggestions Trump could help broker a deal, golf fans have been eagerly awaiting some sort of news.

Indeed, golf fans got an update of sorts yesterday but it’s safe to say it’s not gone down well.

Golf fans unimpressed as PGA Tour announces Donald Trump discussions

Taking to their social media platforms on X, the PGA Tour put out a statement courtesy of Monahan, Woods and Scott to say they’d met with the president.

However, after the statement effectively said very little and offered no real signs of progress, golf fans were quick to jump in and comment.

One fan called the statement ‘ridiculous’, while another took the chance to berate Monahan and suggested he’s not got the business mind to sort things.

“Jay is completely clueless when it comes to business. Didn’t respond to PIF email regarding investment for over a year before they started LIV. Played the 911 card and got slapped in the face immediately. If this administration can kick the PGA tour into high gear, that would actually be phenomenal”

While another fan suggested they won’t be watching at all anymore.

“Just made me, a lifelong golf fan, not want to watch it anymore”

Certainly, it seems the decision to try and involve the president is the major talking point, with one fan pointing out the TOUR just namedropped Trump for attention.

‘they just wanted to name drop Trump for more clicks. L league’

As well as the statement being about Trump, golf fans also seemed to suggest it was a lot of words without actually saying anything, as one fan pointed out.

“Headline update – Commissioner Jay Monahan & Player Director Adam Scott meet President Donald Trump”

With another adding “You guys are masters at putting out word salads” in another dig at the PGA.

Finally, in a more worrying opinion, one golf fan suggested that people simply no longer care.

“No one is eagerly anticipating anything anymore to be honest. We’ve adjusted to the new names on PGAT and forgot about the old ones minus Bryson/Rahm/Brooks. Aside from them, adding players back has absolutely 0 impact on the entertainment product.”

So, while the situation rumbles on and nothing seems closer to being agreed, the PGA Tour are under yet more pressure to get their house in order.

With LIV continuing to push on and their event under the lights in Saudi being a huge success, it seems we are further away than ever from an actual deal being done.
