We might be at the back end of another memorable PGA Tour season but that doesn’t mean we aren’t still seeing a very high standard of golf.
With a lot of focus on the Alfred Dunhill Links this weekend, it was easy to forget that the PGA Tour had an event of its own in the form of the Sanderson Farms Championship.
In the end, the event was won by Steven Fisk, who completed an emotional victory to win for the first time on the PGA Tour ahead of Garrick Higgo.
However, while Higgo and Fisk’s battle at the top was intriguing, it was slightly further down the field where records were tumbling.
This time, thanks to the putting of American golfer, Taylor Montgomery.

Taylor Montgomery sets 2025 PGA Tour record with putting masterclass
Taylor Montgomery might not be the household name many would expect to write himself into the record books for 2025 but that’s exactly what he did at the Sanderson Farms.
Making a serious run of things over his final 18 holes, Montgomery completely blitzed the field when it came to putting.
Over the week, Montgomery needed just 94 putts over 72 holes to get the ball in the hole and in doing so, he was the only player to have less than 100 putts in the event.
Furthermore, Montgomery’s effort was also the best we’ve seen all season on the PGA Tour, ensuring he has a record to his name – for now – before the season ends.
The fewest amount of putts over 72 holes on the PGA Tour
While impressive as it is from Montgomery to go round needing just 94 putts, it still doesn’t put him as top dog on the PGA Tour all-time.
That honour goes to two other golfers in the form of David Frost and Denny McCarthy.
Frost needed just 92 putts to get round the 2005 MCI Heritage while McCarthy’s effort came just last year when he needed the same number at the Valero Texas Open.
Remarkably, neither player won the tournament, just like Montgomery.
A number of players have managed 93 putts including Max Homa, Cam Smith and Mark Calcavecchia.
Likewise, Montgomery joins a long list of golfers to finish with 94.
However, it’s still an impressive feat and one that, come season’s end, Montgomery will look back on with great pride.
