It seems like a PGA tour event never runs from start to finish without some kind of weather delay.

Of course, that’s down to mother nature, rather than the PGA Tour.

However, there are ways in which the PGA Tour could have acted differently during day two of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Friday.

The PGA Tour has received criticism from golf fans recently, namely for their decision to suspend Wesley Bryan a couple of weeks ago.

Now they’re feeling the heat yet again, and rightly so.

The PGA Tour let golf fans down on CJ Cup Byron Nelson day two

Scottie Scheffler leads the CJ Cup Byron Nelson after a sparkling opening round of 61 and a two-under par 33 on his first nine of the second round.

Scheffler was shocked at how firm TPC Craig Ranch was playing on day one, after rain battered the golf course on Wednesday.

To say that the rain throughout the day in McKinney, Texas was torrential would probably be an understatement.

And the bad weather returned on Friday morning. Play was suspended early on, but fans were then left in the dark for quite some time after that.

PGA Tour Communications failed to provide an update on the rain delay for three hours, after initially stating that play had been suspended at 9:46 am central time.

Ridiculously, no further updates were made until 12:59 pm local time:

Then, just over two hours after that, the PGA Tour let everyone know that play would be resumed at 4pm local time.

That’s a poor effort. The fans are what make this great sport, and without them, professional golf would not be what it is today.

Fans nothing more than an afterthought to the PGA Tour

There may have been fans travelling to the course this morning, and they wouldn’t have known where they stood.

Numerous golf fans took to social media platform X to vent their frustrations at the PGA Tour.

One golf fan said, Why did we have to wait 3 hours for this?

Whilst another said, No communication since 9:47 am yall are so bad it’s insane.

A third golf fan sarcastically quipped, Thank you for keeping us updated!

Meanwhile a fourth fan said, Absolutely brutal at keeping your fans in the loop. An update wouldn’t kill you.

And a fifth golf fan replied, Why is there no update? Worst run account ever.

The PGA Tour need to give the fans more consideration.

The woeful lack of updates by the PGA Tour at CJ Cup Byron Nelson was totally unacceptable, and it once again proved how fans are merely nothing more than an afterthought.
