Professional golf is an ever-changing landscape right now, as the PGA Tour and LIV Golf both continue to evolve.

When LIV Golf emerged onto the scene in 2022, they poached numerous high-profile players from the PGA Tour.

However, things seem to have settled down now, with the PGA Tour quite obviously the best and most competitive place for players to test their skills at the very highest level.

There is even talk that Brooks Koepka could make a shock return to the PGA Tour from LIV.

However, the PGA Tour will undoubtedly need to continue to innovate in order to maintain their advantage over LIV.

Apart from Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, which three players can the PGA Tour simply not afford to lose to LIV?

Brian Rolapp became the Tour’s new CEO earlier this year, and he’s quite clearly determined to make some big changes to the product on offer.

Rolapp is said to be planning a shorter PGA Tour season, with all of the events carrying the same weight both financially and from a FedEx Cup points perspective.

Golf fans fume at potential PGA Tour change

The PGA Tour seems to be changing rapidly with Rolapp now at the helm

According to the Golf Channel, the PGA Tour are planning a new 20-event schedule for the 2028 season – one which will begin in Arizona in February and, crucially, AFTER the Super Bowl.

Brian Rolapp has already admitted that the PGA Tour schedule could look very different moving forward.

And now it seems like a newly streamlined product could be implemented in 2028.

However, some golf fans are not happy one little bit after hearing news about potential changes to the schedule.

Some golf fans took to their social media accounts to criticize the PGA Tour for their apparent plans to change the schedule in 2028.

Fans stated: PGA Tour in Chicago continues to be non-existent. Insane!, and, Why change the schedule. Just leave the tour alone. Young guys get a chance to earn a living at minor events and promotes new players.

The comments kept coming with golf fans echoing a similar sentiment: 1. Not everyone in the world watches NFL. This conflict for a few weeks is way overblown. 2. Not enough golf. Too focussed on top players. I for one like to see emerging PGA stars get a chance to actually emerge. This schedule is so biased to established players, one exclaimed.

While another said: 20 years ago I remember someone, probably in golf digest, saying that Golf has to be careful not to become Tennis. It’s happening before our eyes. This ridiculous schedule. LIV. TGL. Grass league. It’s freaking sad.

Many golf fans responded along similar lines…

One said: LIV looking at Torrey Pines, Hawaii? Will opposite field events be a thing of the past? Just crazy to play in Silvis, IL and not Chicagoland. Who are the big losers?

Meanwhile, another suggested that NFL should not be a factor in the decision-making process: Stop worrying about football – you are a niche sport that many people love. You need MORE EXPOSURE not less. You need more opportunities for the rank and file of the tour to earn their cards. The ‘work’ is what makes golf different – this is so weak.

What should be the punishment for LIV golfers who want to return to the PGA Tour?

PGA Tour told they could be about to make ‘self destructive’ mistake

Golf is a 12-month, global sport. Six months between events is idiotic and self-destructive, another fan insisted.

Insane to me they still won’t throw a Chicago event in but somehow Denver made the cut, one golf fan said, while another shared his despair: No Torrey Pines- and Pebble in February – you have to be kidding.

And the hits kept coming.

One golf fan fumed: Absolute travesty. Also 82 will now be safe forever. Greedy greedy greedy. There should be some revenue sharing between events to invest in markets to grow the game and support local charities like the tour has always done. No less than 40 events.

While another also shared his sadness in response to a potential schedule change: Sorry, NO golf in January sucks. When golfers in the north zone of the USA & Canada cant play because of the cold weather, we look forward to watching Hawaii/California golf tournaments to get us thru the winter. Cut off golf after Thanksgiving but leave January alone.

It’s clear to see from those comments that many golf fans are furious about the proposed changes to the PGA Tour schedule.

The truth of the matter is that there is actually no way of knowing whether a new 20-event schedule will be a smart move or not, until it is actually implemented.

The jury is very much out on the PGA Tour’s supposed plans for a new schedule moving forward and only time will tell as to whether or not it will be a successful change.
