The Masters day 2024 day one is finally here. The Golfing Gazette brings you the full schedule, how to watch and all the key info you need to know.
As dawn breaks over the lush green fairways of Augusta National, anticipation fills the air like the first whispers of a thrilling tale. The Masters Golf Tournament, steeped in tradition and drenched in history, kicks off with a sense of wonder and excitement that transcends the sport itself.
This year promises to be bigger than ever. With players like Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Rory Mcilroy and more all taking to the course – golf fans around the globe are simply itching to see how play unfolds.
A huge four days of golf ahead. Here’s how day one is set to pan out.

Key storylines to follow on day one of The Masters
Is it Scottie Scheffler’s year?
Scottie Scheffler has recently become the most dominant golfer on the entire planet.
The 27-year-old has won eight times in just 26 months on the PGA Tour, including a breakthrough major success at The Masters in 2022. He arrives at the Masters 2024 with six top-six finishes in his first eight starts this year.
He is the favourite heading into this year’s proceedings – but will he prevail when the pressure is on?
Will John Rahm defend his title?
Looking to stop Scheffler – last year’s victor, John Rahm.
Only three players have successfully defended their titles – Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods – with Rahm having the opportunity to join that remarkable set of names this time around.
However, it’s going to be tough. Rahm last featured on the PGA Tour at August’s Tour Championship and hasn’t played on the DP World Tour since the DP World Tour Championship in November. He may be a little rusty.
“I think he feels that [lack of intensity],” Nick Faldo told the Sky Sports Golf podcast. “He’s a hell of a player, but he’s going to have to make a little bit of effort to step it up and get the right intensity. Whether coming into defend you can do it, or whether he’s just not quite sharp enough because he hasn’t tested himself quite as much, we’ll have to wait and see.”
How will Tiger Woods perform?
A legend of the game – but how will Tiger Woods fare after such a long time out?
Woods returns to action for the first time since withdrawing mid-round from February’s Genesis Invitational. The question on everyone’s lips – how will his body cope with 72 holes?
This year’s event marks the fifth anniversary of Woods’ incredible 2019 success, where he claimed his first major victory in 11 years and won The Masters for a fifth time. Let’s see how he gets on this time around, day one will be a great indication of the Tiger we’re set to see.
Can Rory McIlroy end his draught?
Last but not least, lots of eyes will be on Rory McIlroy as he looks to end his, now nearly 10-year major drought.
The lower expectations for this tournament in particular may work out in his favour. No pressure – so McIlroy can once again show what he’s really made of on the luscious greens of the Augusta National.
