Scottie Scheffler is the best player in the world right now by quite some margin, and his second round 65 at the BMW Championship saw him extend one of his current PGA Tour records.

Scheffler carded a bogey-free second round at the BMW Championship – something that has become a common theme for him on the PGA Tour since 2021.

Surprisingly, Scheffler’s putting and short game bailed him out at the BMW Championship during his first two rounds.

Unusually, his iron play wasn’t up to his usual high standards, but his all-round game is just so incredibly solid.

Scheffler has spoken about how difficult Caves Valley is playing this week, so his rounds of 66 and 65 really have been very impressive indeed.

Now he will have the mindset of going out on Saturday and making up ground on the leader, Robert MacIntyre, as quickly as possible.

It should be no surprise that Scheffler is currently sitting at number one in the ‘bogey avoidance’ category on the PGA Tour this season.

He is streets ahead of everyone else when it comes down to bogey-free rounds on the PGA Tour since 2021.

Six more bogey-free rounds for Scheffler at the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship would most likely see him end the season with two more victories.

Three PGA Tour stats are behind Scottie Scheffler’s bogey-free rounds record

Scheffler’s iron play is the strongest part of his game, and his driving is exceptional as well. He ranks top of both categories on the PGA Tour.

However, three other departments of his game have actually played the most important roles in his ability to card so many bogey-free rounds.

Scheffler is currently inside the top-20 in the bogey avoidance, scrambling and putting categories and they are all vital parts of the game when it comes to carding pars or better.

Scheffler’s rivals must be wondering how they can beat him right now.

He’s the best ball-striker in the game and his ability to avoid bogeys makes him almost unbeatable at times.
